Patrick Staropoli tops great field of Trucks at New Smyrna | C.A.R.S. Motorports & Racer Marketing Orlando FL - 11-25-2006 - Hialeah young gun Patrick Staropoli came into New Smyrna with his truck fully loaded for the fight. After 100 tough laps and the as the smoke settled he was in victory lane. " We have got a real good truck, I think we can win this thing" stated Staropoli to me during practice. They had only one problem from practice and that was that they ran out of time to scuff the new set of tires they would qualify on and race with. " That may have hurt us, specially going out first, but it was not to bad". Staropoli would qualify fourth out of 34 trucks and begin the century grind from outside row two. Patrick would avoid an early scare as he would get together with Scott Reeves. That caused a gash in the tire and know the toe in. " It did not hurt the truck, it still turned good. It was better toed in as it may have helped loosen the truck a bit". Staropoli would then begin a fierce battle with pole sitter Micheal Pilla as they began to work lapped traffic. Reeves who battled very hard to hold the outside line next to Pilla would finally slip enough for Pilla and Staropoli to get by. Then Staropoli would patiently wait for Pilla to make a mistake and the door opened up a bit later while lapped traffic came into play. Dustin Skinner who had made his way to second was putting pressure on. Staropoli got boxed in by some lapped trucks and that allowed Skinner to get by for the moment. Staropoli then got free and chased Skinner back down and when Skinner slipped entering turn three Staropoli took advantage and regained the lead. As they battle the next couple of laps Skinner used the chrome horn and got in the back of Staropoli, sending him around in turn four. Officials would send Skinner to the rear and give Staropoli back his spot. Staropoli would then hold off the pressure of another young gun Scott Bishop over several late restarts. " I just tried not to make any mistakes and change up the start a bit each time, to keep him honest" stated Patrick. Staropoli would take the big win over Scott Bishop and Micheal Pilla who made up the top three. While Patrick was celebrating his big win the other half of the " Hialeah Posse" was celebrating a championship. George Morales survived several problems to capture the FASCAR Pro-Truck Championship and was burning the front stretch down in the back ground. " I really have to thank my dad for all the time and effort he put into the truck, he is so busy with work but finds time to help me go racing. Thanks to the crew for all their help and support as well ". " This is a big win and I look forward to next year, we have learned a lot this year and want to come back strong in 2007". The Star racing team has plans to run the Hopkins Family Truckers 200 December 8th & 9th at Orlando Speedworld. " The truck is in one piece and we can go after that big race" added Staropoli.
