David Wilson Gets Major Super Late Model Win At DeSoto | The All American Challenge Series will forever be remembered by David Wilson. The final AACS race of 2006 belonged to David as he started on the pole and then found his way to the front on his way to the first 125 lap checkered flag he has collected in his short racing career.
The youngster from Sarasota, Fl. fell behind veteran racer "Rocket" Wayne Jefferson and followed him until taking the lead again on lap 93. There was a caution flag after contact between Wilson and Jefferson, Jefferson's car unable to continue. David then built up a half straight lead on AACS Champion Jeff Choquette. "With 15 to go Choquette had caught us and he was right on our bumper, but he said his tires went away, and we were able to win," Wilson said after the race.
Asked about his thoughts in the final laps with Jeff Choquette breathing down his neck, David said, "It took forever, but I asked Junior if we were going fishing tomorrow and he said no. And I said if I win we'll have to go fishing, and when I came out of turn four on the white flag, I screamed over the radio, 'Junior we're going fishing', that's all my thoughts were."
"I really have to thank so many people for making this come true. Dick Anderson and Junior Purcell worked their tails for this." David said.
Veterans Dick Anderson and Junior Purcell have been Crew Chief and Spotter for the #83 Wilson Excavating Race Team throughout the 2006 season.
Plans for the remainder of this year may include a trip to the Snowflake race at Five Flags Speedway, however that trip is still up in the air.
David Wilson has a web site opening soon at DavidWilsonAutoRacing.com
