David Wilson Eyeing Success In Super Late Models | As the 2006 season winds down for David Wilson, driver of the number 83 Super Late Model, he looks back and sees tremendous gains in his racing program this year.
The youngster from Sarasota, Fl. has tested some big waters in 2006, the most recent being the Bright House Challenge Super Late Model series at New Smyrna Speedway last Saturday. This track represents one of the toughest tests in the South. After being the fastest racer in the practice rounds, he ran into brake problems as the race reached midway point. Still, with a horrible brake situation and a very loose race car, he managed a third place finish behind two of Florida' top guns, B.J. McLeod and Jeff Choquette.
The team was very happy after the race, not just with the third place finish but being able to compete against some of the toughest racers in the country.
Early this year the Wilson Motorsports team decided to hit the Hooters ProCup circuit with Show Time Motorsports. They ran four races in the very competitive national series, the last being at Lakeland's 3/4 mile speedway where he managed a 20th place finish, leaving in the late stages with mechanical problems.
Wilson has also had some good runs in the All American Challenge Series at DeSoto Speedway in Bradenton, Fl. this year with several top five finishes.
A major part of David's success this year can be linked to his teaming up with two of the best teachers in the business. "With the knowledge that Dick Anderson and Junior Purcell give me, I swear it has cut our learning curve by two or three years", the high school senior and honor student said recently.
On the 25th of this month David and the team will compete in the final 125 lap event of the All American Challenge Series 2006 schedule at DeSoto.
In 2007 David Wilson has high hopes as he will have three new cars to compete in the full schedule of the ASA Late Model Series, perhaps three or four Hooters ProCup events and the FASCAR Sunbelt Super Late Model Series and All American Challenge Series as schedule permits.
"If there is a race in late models next year we will find it", David said.
David's racing efforts are currently sponsored by Wilson Excavating, owned by his father Don Wilson and his new web site, currently under development, will be ready in December.
David was a recent guest on the popular Real Racin' USA Internet broadcast and his interview can be heard at the following link:Click Here To Listen!.
