Goodyear Challenge Late Model 100 | Samsula, Fla. (July 6, 2006) The Goodyear Challenge Late Model 100 will see it's second appearance this year at Columbia Motorsports Park on Saturday, July 8. This will be the eighth race of the 2006 season and promises to be just as exciting as the first race at Columbia.
Rich Clouser of Palm Bay was declared the winner of the first race after Jason Boyd and Johnny Kay were disqualified. Boyd, who drove A.J. Curreli's car, was not a happy camper and let it be known. Kay was a gentleman as always and took the disqualification with tack. Going into race number eight, we have a new points leader by five in Dustin Deschamps. Deschamps is a rookie coming from the Florida Mini Stock Challenge Series. Right behind Deschamps is the 2005 Goodyear Challenge Late Model Champion Rich Clouser. The most recent winner in the Goodyear Challenge Series is Joe Winchell who won the Bronson race. With his win, Joe stands third in points.
After seeing his car destroyed at USA International, Chuck Burkhalter has had a rough few races. But Burkhalter is a trooper and always comes back strong. Standing fourth in points is Chuck Burkhalter. Rounding out the top five is Troy Hall.
Two rookies stand sixth and seventh, Travis Cope and Justin Larson. Cope, who has two wins under his belt, has gotten stronger and stronger as the year has progressed. Larson is also another Florida Mini Stock Challenge Series driver who went from a Mini Stock to a Late Model. Greg Kaouk stands eighth followed by A.J. Curreli and Jeremy Goddard.
If you like Late Models, you will love this race. A good field of Late Models are expected and they will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. Also on the program will be the Open Wheel Modifieds, Street Stocks, Hornets, and TQ Late Models.
Pit gate will open at 2 pm with practice for the Goodyear Challenge Late Model drivers ONLY from 3 to 4 pm with division practice to follow. Qualifying for the Goodyear Challenge Late Model 100 will be at 6:45 pm with racing action at 7:30 pm.
