"Old Timers" get FREE Night at SpeedWorld 7/7 | "OLD TIMERS" GET A FREE NIGHT FOR JOSLIN MEMORIAL AT SPEEDWORLD ON 7/7 DOUBLE POINTS AND PBG LEGENDS ON TAP FOR THIS WEEKEND
A tradition will return on Friday night, July 7th, as the Joslin Memorial for Open Wheel Modifieds will be held along with a special night honoring former racers throughout the State of Florida.
The race itself will be a 50 lap event for the Open Wheel Modifieds honoring the memory of former Central Florida short track legend and NASCAR driver Dick Joslin and his son Jerry who originally put together the event before his own passing a few years ago from a heart attack, the same thing that took his father's life in 1972. Both were only in their 40's at the time of their passing.
Jerry Joslin worked hard to put together a special "Old Timers Night" for each Joslin race where former drivers from the area could gather together once again and trade old stories along with seeing the current local racers in action. That tradition is also being renewed in 2006 as all retired racers from the Florida tracks will be invited to attend, along with their family, for free on July 7th.
"It does not make any difference what track the driver raced at, be it Speedworld, the Old Orlando Raceway, Eau Gallie Speedway, Hialeah, Palm Beach, Golden Gate, New Smyrna, Jacksonville or Daytona for that matter, we want them to come to the track and have a good time and bring a few memories with them," says Rusty Marcus, Orlando Speedworld General Manager.
Any drivers planning to attend should RSVP if at all possible to let the track know how much seating should be reserved. You may contact the track at 407-568-1367. If you get the recording, just leave a message and you'll be added to the list. You may also contact Orlando Speedworld Announcer/PR Director Dave Westerman at 407-970-3957 or by e-mail at announcerdave@usa.net to RSVP as well.
All Friday night FASCAR racing divisions will be in action this week with double points on the line in all classes. Action for the Super Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsman, Mini Stocks, Super Stocks, and Strictly Stocks begins at 8PM.
Saturday it's the fifth race of the 2006 PBG Florida Legends Car Tour and a big field is expected. The tour opened up with Brandon Thomson taking the win at Speedworld in March. Chelsea Schillig topped the field at Bronson Motor Speedway with 2005 PBG Champion Kory Abbott taking the win at Citrus County Speedway. Andy Logan, last weeks Speedworld RE/MAX Legends Car winner, took the checker in a wild finish at Desoto Super Speedway just three weeks ago.
Also in action will be the Florida Mini Cup Racing Association Pros and Future Stars along with the Bandeleros, Hurricanes and Junior Stocks. Saturday night action starts promptly at 7PM.
