FANS WILL GET PLENTY OF RACING FRIDAY AT SPEEDWORLD | By Dave Westerman
If you like lots of racing, Orlando Speedworld is the place to be this Friday evening, with 17 feature races on the docket including a 50 lap special for the popular Super Stock division.
James Frisbie hopes this weeks 50 lap Super Stock special will become his third win of the year. Rain was responsible for five of last weeks feature races being cancelled and those will be made up at the beginning of this weeks program after Super Stock qualifying. Twelve lap features are scheduled for all three Bandelero classes to start the night followed by the 25 lap make-up feature for the RE/MAX Legends Cars and a 12 lap make-up race for the Junior Stock Seniors aged 12-15.
Luke Gaier won his first Junior Stock 8-11 year old feature last week... can he make it two in a row in his Saturn. Regularly scheduled features will follow for the Super Late Models, Modifieds, Mini Stocks, Sportsman, the 50 lapper for Super Stocks, Strictly Stocks, RE/MAX Legends, all three Bandelero classes and both classes of Junior Stocks.
The Super Stock 50 lap races at Speedworld always produce some surprises and many times a surprise winner as well. Several New Smyrna Speedway Saturday night regulars are expected to invade their sister track for the big race and several drivers expect to make their first outing of the year including Orlando's "Bomber" Bill Loomis, who will be out in a completely rebuilt car.
Defending Super Stock Champion Racin' Jason Foster of Melbourne currently leads the 2006 points chase as well and will be one of the favorites along with fellow Brevard County residents James Frisbie, Roger Benton and Bobby Byars. Look for last weeks feature winner Bobby Riley to be a factor along with Daytona's Ron Whaley, Kissimmee's Ray Mullis, Orlando's Vince Keeler and a host of others.
Other point leaders headed into the weekend are Rick Bates (Super Late Model), Brandon Thomson (RE/MAX Legends), Alan Bruns (Modified), Tim "Missileman" McPhail (Mini Stock), Richard Hight (Sportsman), Robert Remus (Strictly Stock), Mark Hooven (Bandelero Bandits), Gerald White, Jr. (Bandelero Young Guns), Brandon Duncan (Bandelero Outlaws), Wes Railing, Jr. (Junior Stock 8-11), and Jessie Cuddy (Junior Stock 12-15).
Grandstand gates open officially at 6PM with Super Stock time trials slated for 7PM and racing at 8PM. A large crowd is expected as over 10,000 free passes were handed out at last weekend's Indian River Festival in Titusville.
