MELBOURNE - Manis H. Fritts, 76, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, FL. He was born September 16, 1929 in Chester County, PA.
A decorated veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his dis charge he spent several years in South Carolina before relo cating to Eau Gallie, FL. He was an Officer with the Eau Gallie Police Department (13 strong) for four years.
He later worked as an auto mechanic at several Brevard dealerships before opening the Fritts Auto Clinic on Wickham Road in Melbourne. He retired in 1990 and spent his retirement years in Frostproof, FL. He was a life long member of the Masons, Lodge #318, rising to 32nd Degree Master Mason.
He went on to become a member of the Azan Shrine in Melbourne. An avid race fan, he was known as one of the best race car builders during Eau Gallie Speedways heyday. His racing career continued with his son, Michael, driver for the Briar Racing Team.
He was their #1 fan and known as Pops to the Briar crew. He is survived by his sons, Michael H. (Joy) Fritts, Joseph M. (Michelle) Fritts and Hugh E. (Linda) Mery; step-daughter, Dawne M. Parker sisters, Jean E. (Marshall) Leggett and Mildred P. Ketron; six grandchil dren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Melissa Campbell. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 15th, at Florida Memorial Funeral Home with burial to follow at Florida Memorial Gardens.
