Chicago Area Businessman Tom Smith to Purchase Plymouth Speedway | PLYMOUTH, Ind. (February 7, 2006) – Chicago area businessman Tom Smith and Midwestern Stock Car Legend Bobby Blount have formed a partnership that will see Smith purchase Plymouth Speedway and Blount serve as its Director of Operations and Promoter. Terms of a tentative purchase agreement between Smith and Action Entertainment to acquire the Plymouth, IN Speedway have been agreed to. The closing date is tentatively set for the end of February.
“I’m thrilled that this acquisition could take place,” said Bobby Blount. “With the history of the track and the fact that my dad (Jim), son (Chad) and I spent so many years racing there, it means a great deal to me. I look forward to working with Tom Smith and making it one of the best short tracks in the area.”
Smith has raced at Plymouth Speedway before and is excited about its future. “Having competed there before, I know the track has a lot of potential,” said the part time CRA Super Series competitor. ”When I heard about the opportunity to purchase Plymouth Speedway and form a working partnership with Bobby Blount, it was something I couldn’t pass up. I look forward to bringing family-oriented short track racing back to Marshall County.”
For the former owner, Action Entertainment, the sale has many positives for all the parties. “It is a Win-Win situation for everyone involved,” said Rick Dawson, president of Action Entertainment. “We will be able to focus solely on our extensive schedule at Anderson Speedway and Plymouth Speedway will be under great, new ownership and leadership. I wish them the best of luck in their new and exciting endeavor.”
Plymouth Speedway, a .375 mile semi-banked paved oval, is located just outside of Plymouth, Ind., in Marshall County. The new ownership and management have begun working on a schedule and rules for the 2006 season, with more details to follow soon. “Obviously things came together a little later than we would have liked,” Blount commented, “but our Sunday Night show will be a fast paced program, with the goal to get teams and fans on the their way home shortly after 9 pm. We also expect the rules to be similar to those currently being used in the area. This is a great time in the history of the Speedway and we hope everyone will enjoy being a part of our fun, family atmosphere on Sunday nights.”
Plymouth Speedway’s new website, www.plymouthspeedway.net, will be launched at the beginning of next week. A contact phone number should be released within the week.
