Tires and procedures announced for Super Late Model "Mark III Speedfest" | by Glenn Luckett
LAKELAND, Fla. -- Officials from the Midwest-based Champion Racing Association (CRA) Super Series, the Southern-based FASCAR/Sunbelt Super Series and USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Florida have just released tire information for the 2006 Super Late Model “MARK III SpeedFest”. Super Late Model teams and fans will gather at USA International Speedway January 26-28, 2006 for the second installment of the “North vs. South” battle at the renowned Florida facility. The increased purse will make it possible for one driver to take home almost $15,000.
The tires for the event will be the Goodyear 2402 and 2372 10-inch racing tires. It is important to note that these are not the tires used last year. Teams may pre-order only Thursday’s practice tires and Friday’s qualifying tires. At the end of the Thursday’s practice session, teams will only be allowed to hold four tires for Friday’s qualifying in impound. Any practice tires that are purchased must be removed from impound and may not be used for racing. Utilizing the draw for Friday’s qualifying to determine the order of tire selection for Saturday’s racing, teams will be able to pick out their four tires for Saturday’s qualifying/racing, after Friday’s qualifying tires have been released. The second racing set for Saturday will be picked Saturday morning.
To pre-order Thursday’s practice tires and Friday’s race set, teams can fax orders in to 386-426-1611. Faxed pre-orders should include name, phone number, car number, and stagger requirements. Teams that have problems with the fax can contact Donnie at 386-663-5113. Faxing is the preferred method of pre-ordering.
In January of 2005 60 teams took part in the first “SpeedFest” that brought all the different teams and sanctioning bodies together. The first 100-lap event was one by Florida’s Mike Fritts, while Wisconsin’s Charlie Menard won the Mark III Conversions 200-lap finale. The 2006 version will see a 100 lap North Qualifier and a 100 lap South Qualifier on Friday night, leading up to Saturday’s crowning 200-lap event.
