Orlando SpeedWorld sets eight nights of racing for 2006 Winternationals | by Dave Westerman
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando Speedworld will be a busy place during the month of February with two practice days and eight full nights of racing making up the 2006 Winternationals.
The track officially opens up for business on Wednesday, February 8th with practice and registration for the Open Wheel Lite, Mod Lite, Pro Challenge, MMRA Mini Cup, FMCRA Mini Cup, and Formula Indy Cars. Racing begins on Thursday evening February 9th and continues thru Saturday the 11th. Several other classes may also be added to the card for opening week with negotiations now under way.
After a day off, practice and registration takes place for the INEX 600 Racing Series cars on Monday, February 13th. Legends Cars, Bandeleros, and Thunder Roadsters will take part for the third consecutive year and well over 100 cars are expected to compete from Tuesday, February 14th through Saturday the 18th. The Legends Cars will be split into three divisions, Semi-Pro, Pro, and Masters while the Bandeleros will also run in three different groups, Bandits, Young Guns, and Outlaws.
In addition, FASCAR Super Stocks will race Wednesday through Saturday of the second week while the USAC Ford Focus Midgets will race on both Fridays, February 10th and 17th as part of the 2006 "revival" of the Tangerine Midget Tournament last held in Florida back in 1957.
McDonalds of East Orlando has signed on as a partner with the 2006 Winternationals. Any fan bringing a McDonalds drink cup from any McDonalds restaurant to the track will receive free general grandstand admission throughout the two weeks of the Winternationals.
