FMSC/SSS Racing Series News Update | By Rick Warren
In the 5 years of its' existence, The Florida Mini Stock Challenge Series has become one of the most competitive and entertaining traveling series to hit the Florida racing scene. Under the able leadership of Todd Hutto and Mike Dezarn, the series has been able to provide a set of rules that nearly every Mini Stock racer in the state is able to comply, with only very minor changes. This has contributed to very good car counts at every track the series visits. This years race at USA International speedway drew over 50 entries, and the race turned out by all accounts as one the most exciting of the year at the > mile Lakeland oval.
Along with the Mini Stock Challenge, Hutto and Dezarn wanted to make the same type of racing available to the large numbers of Sportsman racers in Florida, and the fruition of that plan was the very popular Southern Sportsman Series. Based on the same plan of a level playing field for racers throughout the state, the rules for the series allowed the majority of Floridas' Sportsman class racers to compete with very few if any changes to their race cars. This Series has also met with great support and success all over the state.
As if these two series didn't provide enough racing, at the end of the 2004 racing season, Hutto and Dezarn were given the opportunity to take over the leadership of the fledgling Gulf Coast Modified Series. Due to a very late start, sponsorship issues, scheduling conflicts, and bad weather, the Modifieds were forced to run a very abbreviated schedule for the 2005 season.
At the end of the year, Dustin Deschamps, of Brooksville, had won his second consecutive championship in the Mini Stock Series, while Aaron Williamson, of Mulberry, had also repeated as the Southern Sportsman Champ. The GulfCoast Modified title was claimed by Tommy Bower, of Pinellas Park.
Exciting things are in store for the 2006 racing season for these 3 series. In an announcement today, Hutto brought the news of 2 more sponsors for all 3 series. Signing on as contingency sponsors are Sunoco Racing Fuels, with Bearden Oil Company. Sunoco Racing Fuels is well known in the racing world as the premier supplier of quality racing fuel to nearly every racing venue. They are indeed a welcome addition to these series, and the racers are looking forward to their support.
Also joining the series is Real Wheels, a major manufacturer of Aluminum and Steel Racing Wheels for all racing applications. Based in Independence Iowa, Real Wheels has a great deal of experience in the racing industry, and will make a great addition to these series continued success.
Further details will be announced as they are finalized. Look for more announcements, as more sponsorship packages are in the works. 2006 looks to be a spectacular year for these series. The Mini's and Southern Sportsman are scheduled to open their season on February 25, at the Citrus County Speedway, while the Gulfcoast Modifieds are scheduled to open on February 26 at Desoto Super Speedway.
