Owens closes the gap in the Late Model Championship at NSS | C.A.R.S. Motorsports & Racer Marketing Orlando FL. June 25th - Alli Owens grabs another solid finish in her back up car and moves up in the season points battle at New Smyrna Speedway. Owens would start third in the FASCAR sanctioned Late Model feature. On the start she was hooked up in a three way battle for the spot. An early caution would foil the effort as scoring would have her fifth for the restart. She would battle hard to get around the fourth place car, that was holding her up, as the lead pack got away a bit. After finally clearing the spot she began the chase for the third spot , but the lead pack had a near straight away lead. Owens would chase down the third place car with just two laps remaining and try several moves finally getting a run on the last lap and last corners to come to the line side by side for the spot. She ending up getting nosed for the spot by inches. " We really had a good car tonight, the track was slick from the rain earlier, but we found a groove to make it work. I feel good about a couple of good weeks and we are off until the 16th and we will have the primary car back ready to go. The crew tells me it should be a bullet, I am excited about that" stated Owens. Owens had veteran driver, owner Bobby Sears coaching her in the pits and said she learned a lot. Alli spent some time up in the booth with the track announcer and interacting with the fans. She had some free hats and autographed some photo cards for the fans. Owens now has moved into the third spot in the points and is just 11 points out of the second spot, and just 30 out of the lead in the season long chase for the track championship. She holds a 60 point lead in the rookie of the year standings. " It felt great to chase down the third place car and have a battle to the stripe like that, that was pretty intense. I can't wait to get back in the primary car and challenge those guys for a win" added Owens. Watch for the #22 pink and white racer on the 16th at the New Smyrna Speedway.
