Information for Racer snd Fans for July 4th Weekend at New Smyrna Speedway and Daytona | Following the Memorial Day traffic and parking crunch for residents and visitors trying to enjoy the beach, the City of New Smyrna Beach and Volusia County are working together to provide off-beach parking over the long July 4th weekend. Low tides during the weekend are expected to bring large crowds to the beach. Although low tides should allow vehicle parking on New Smyrna Beach in various locations, the beach is not fully restored and off-beach parking is a necessity. Beach access ramps are open at Beachway Avenue (North), 3rd Avenue (Central) and 27th Avenue (South) as tides permit.
Public parking lots are located at North Beach Park on Sapphire Avenue, Flagler Avenue Boardwalk, Jessamine Avenue, Florida Avenue, 27th Avenue Park and Hiles Boulevard. City officials feel that the crowds may exceed these spaces. In order to provide additional parking, beginning July 1 and continuing through July 4th, the City of New Smyrna Beach will provide a free park and ride service continuously every 20 minutes. The trolley will run from 8:00 AM to 5PM. Passengers may board the trolley at the City Administrative Office Building, 120 N. Causeway with overflow parking at New Smyrna High School. The trolley will unload at Flagler Avenue Boardwalk.
The City’s goal is to provide beach access for residents and visitors while protecting the rights of beachside homeowners and merchants. Drivers should be aware that traffic citations may occur for the following infractions: parking in areas with posted “no-parking” signs, parking against traffic flow on right-of-ways, exceeding time-limit spaces, parking on private property. City officials are encouraging drivers to be courteous and not block driveways or other vehicles when parking in any location.
Pedestrian access has improved with the repairs of many walkovers damaged by the hurricanes. According to Volusia County’s website (www.volusia.org), the following walkovers (listed North to South) are open to the public: Smyrna Dunes Park (NS-99 B, C & D), Sapphire Avenue, Ocean Drive, Surf Street, Cortez Street, Tide Street, Inlet Street (Path), Hillsboro Street, Due East Street, Flagler Avenue, Buenos Aires, Columbus Street, Oakwood Avenue, Ocean Avenue, Maralyn Avenue, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 13th, 15th, 16th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th Streets, Sandpiper, Matthews Avenue, Oyster Quay, and Floral Avenue.
