Super Lates Gear up for July 3rd with big race this weekend at New Smyrna Speedway

by Jane Smith

Samsula, Fla (June 21, 2005) This weekend should be very exciting for fans at New Smyrna Speedway as it is the weekend before the big Clyde Hart Memorial 125 on July 3rd. A large number of Super Late Models are expected for this annual race that honors Clyde Hart and this Saturday will be the last race date that they can get a few extra laps in for practice.

Along with the Super Late Models this Saturday night are the Pro Trucks, Quick Kids, Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stock, and Strictly Stock. With last weekend's race beating the weather, points are really tight now in all divisions.

David Rogers leads the points for the Super Late Models with Jeff Choquette in second. Orlando SpeedWorld's Ronnie Roach has now moved into third passing Dalton Zehr who now stands fourth. A.J. Factor rounds out the top five but Factor may not be able to return to the points race as he blew his motor last weekend and does not have a back-up motor. Factor was going to tear down the motor this week to see if it is repairable or not.

After the Goodyear Challenge Late Model 100 rainout at Bronson Motor Speedway, a number of Late Models hot footed it back to New Smyrna for Late Model action. Among them was Rusty Ebersole who was able to race and take over the points lead from A.J. Curreli who fell back to second. Jeremy Fitch is third but only two points behind Curreli and 11 points behind Ebersole. Alli Owens moved into fourth with her third place finish followed by Robert Andercheck in fifth.

Art Kunzeman still leads the Open Wheel Modified division but he better watch out as Jared Allison took over second and only 40 points behind Kunzeman. Tank Tucker fell to third when he had mechanical problems and finished last in the race. Bobby Blake stands fourth with Ted Helmes only four points behind in fifth. These guys are not playing around and make for some exciting Modified action every Saturday night.

Donny Williams has a very big lead in the Sportsman division which will be hard to catch. Jim Snyder moved into second with his good finish last weekend and holds a 5 point lead over Dale Clouser in third. Clouser also had mechanical problems last weekend and had to end his night early in the pits. Ron Lufcy and Mike Soukup round out the top five.

Mini Stocks have the weekend off but they also saw a new points leader last Saturday as Ben Cutler Jr. took a 30 point lead over Ted Vulpius in second. David Castello is holding third but Wayne Wells moved to fourth over Anthony King in fifth. Some of these Mini Stocks are expected to run in the Florida Mini Stock Challenge race on July 3rd.

Jason Foster still leads the Super Stock points at not only New Smyrna Speedway but Orlando SpeedWorld. Foster holds a 65 point lead over second place Pat Buckley who won last Saturday night. Faris Crews stands third over Jams Adams and Ron Whaley.

Jose Rivera holds a seven point lead in the Strictly Stock division over second place Ray Tanguay. Young Greg Dame stands third followed by Mike Wofford in fourth. Moving into fifth with his fifth place finish last Saturday night is Tim Logue.

Marty Wolf took over the points lead last Saturday in the weekly Pro Trucks division. Wolf has a 12 point lead over second place Dalton Zehr. Ron Dubeau and Bill Stacy are tied in third and fourth with 85 points each followed by Jamie Skinner in fifth. Matt Martin joined in the fun last weekend and showed the Big Boys how the young ones do it by winning the feature race. Matt hopes to get alot more racing in this summer. Young Scott Bishop of South Carolina leads the Quick Kids and is definitely one young man that will go far. Bishop has already shown the older racers that he has it but winning a Pro Truck race.

Pit gates will open at 4 p.m. this Saturday, June 25th. Racing begins at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $10.00, $5.00 for students and seniors, children 11 and under FREE.
