Goodyear Challenge Late Models open 2005 season at New Smyrna Speedway

by Jane Smith

Samsula, Fla. (March 15, 2005) They have waited and now the time is here for the Goodyear Challenge Late Models to have their first race of the 2005 race season. Saturday night, March 19th, the Goodyear drivers will go for 100 laps of action packed racing at New Smyrna Speedway.

Returning to defend his 2004 Championship will be Jason Boyd who will do double duty this year as he wheels a Super Late Model in the Sunbelt Series also. Plus Jason will also drive the #2x Modified owned by Bobby Judkins at Orlando SpeedWorld and New Smyrna when his schedule allows him to.

Also returning to the Goodyear Challene this year will be Joe Winchell who really gave Boyd a “run for the money” in 2004. Winchell has proven that he can wheel his Late Model just about anywhere and finish in the top five.

Rich Clouser finished third in points in 2004 and was the 2003 Rookie-of-theYear and second in points for the Goodyear Challenge. Clouser is a very strong contender no matter where the Goodyear Challenge goes. Nothing would please Bobby Sears, owner of the No. 9 Late Model driven by Rich Clouser, more than to take home that Championship trophy in 2005.

Also returning will be Tate Pierce, Steve Smith, A.J. Curreli, Tim Russell, Chuck Burkhalter, Jerry Artuso, Bill Ostriker, Charles Kopach, Rich Cordis, Danny Esposito, and, of course, our female drivers Cynthia Strahley and Amanda Gogel.

There will be an open practice at New Smyrna Speedway on Thrusday, March 17th, from 5 to 10 p.m. Cost is $20.00 per car plus three crew. $5.00 each additional person.

On Saturday, March 19th, pit gates will open at 2 p.m. with practice for the Goodyear Challenge Late Models ONLY from 3 to 4 p.m. Qualifying for the first Goodyear Challenge Late Model race of the year will be at 6 p.m. Racing action starts at 7:30 p.m.

Grandstands will open at 6 p.m. General admission is $15.00 adults, $10.00 students and seniors, children 11 and under free. Pit gate is $25.00.
