Mike Powers to run for Rookie of the Year in FASTRUCK | C.A.R.S. Motorsports & Racer Marketing Orlando FL. - South Florida driver Mike Powers will compete full time in the FASTRUCK series in 2005. He will be running for rookie of the year honors. Powers began his career in 1998 at the Hialeah Speedway in the cyclone division. He was rookie of the year that season and finished second in the season championship by just 35 points. He backed it up again in 1999 again finishing second. Finally the third time would be the charm as in 2000 he captured the track championship. 2001 would see a big change in his career as he took over management of the famed speedway, after the former governing body went out of business. He continued to race and again was second in the points. 2003 he took a second championship in that division, and has amassed over 35 feature wins. 2004 was a big break for Powers as he met Osmel Diaz and Cairo Lane who invested money and time into a FASTRUCK. Powers made several starts last year to ready himself for a full assault on the series in 2005. " I am really excited about the opportunity to do this, Osmel and Cairo are great and have given me a great shot. We have some great sponsors and are still locking down some for the season" stated Powers. The team has Cairo Lane used auto parts, Finishline graphics, DuPont, J.Y.D./ Worth Softball, Bell-air automotive and Wheels America . Powers is working on a couple possible additions in Big Dawgs sports bar and Mel-o-dee nails. " We don't have the amount of experience that most of these teams have but I know we will learn quickly and the starts last year help with that learning curve. I want to win rookie of the year and finish in the top five in points, that's the goal for our team this year" added Powers. The team had a previously scheduled commitment that was going to keep them from race one at Charlotte but mother nature has made it possible for Powers to start with everyone else at Auburndale this Saturday Night. So he may already have some luck going his way. The Mike Powers driven 05 will be in action this Saturday as the series opens at the tight confines of the Auburndale Speedway at 7p.m. Have an opinion on this story?
