SpeedWorld Winternationals set to begin Thursday, 91 Legend Cars have Pre-Entered

by Dave Westerman

The second annual Orlando Speedworld Winternationals get under way this Thursday as the Mod Lite/Open Wheel Lite cars will be joined for three nights of racing by the exciting Pro Challenge cars and the Florida-based FMRCA Mini-Cup machines.

Pit gates will officially open at 9AM on Wednesday, February 9, followed by an afternoon of practice from noon until dark. Racing on Thursday and Friday starts at 8PM with the Saturday show starting at 7PM.

After a day off on Sunday, The Legends Cars, Bandeleros, Thunder Roadsters, MMRA Mini-Cups, Baby Grands and BM Modifieds will begin making their way into the speedway for a day of practice on Monday, February 14 with racing the following Tuesday - Saturday nights.

As of the January 31st cut-off date, 91 paid pre-entries had been received for the Legends Cars from 21 different states and three Canadian provinces. Also, England's Derek Hales has entered for the second straight year along with Legends Car "legends" Clay Hair of Mt. Pleasant, NC and Cotton Spry of Salisbury, NC.

Florida is well represented with 20 drivers already entered followed closely by North Carolina with 18. Eight drivers from Texas are already entered along with six from Tennessee and five from Virginia.

Most insiders feel there may be as many as 130 Legends Cars competing over the five days of racing.
