North Dominates Speedfest at USA International

By Mark Chisum

Lakeland, Florida- The Indiana-based Champion Racing Series
dominated Speedfest 2005 at USA International Speedway Saturday night,
taking the top three positions in the 200-lap event. The event brought
together drivers from five series from around the nation including the
Champion Racing Series, Florida Sunbelt Series, Pro All Star Series,
Southern All Stars, and United States Racing Association.

The Sunbelt Series led the way in qualifying, with six drivers in the top ten. Justin Drawdy led the way with a 20.847 second lap around the ¾ mile oval. 1.222 seconds separated the 44 cars that maid qualifying runs.

Charlie Menard took the lead from Southern All Stars driver Bubba
Pollard on lap 135 and went on to take the win over northern
counterparts Eddie Hoffman and Pat Kelly. Pollard maintained his second place position before losing oil pressure on lap 163, finishing 23rd.

Once past Pollard, Menard built and maintained a comfortable
lead for the remainder of the race. Mike Rowe made the long haul from
Turner, Maine but went home with a fourth place finish. Sunbelt driver
Jay Middleton rounded out the top five.

David Hole was the top finishing Southern All Star driver. Hole
finished 13th. Other All Star drivers were Ronnie Sanders 17th, Johnny
Brazier 18th, Josh Hamner 24th, and Ryan Foster 28th.

Charlie Bradberry was involved in a hard crash in Thursday’s
100–lap race. The car was damaged beyond repair for the weekend.
Bradberry was scheduled to drive Sanders back up car on Saturday, but
engine problems ended his weekend.

The O’Reilly Southern All Stars will open its 2005 season with the annual Earlybird 100 at Birmingham International Raceway, February 25-27. For more information, contact the series at (256) 539-4484, or visit the series’ web site at www.southern-allstars.com/
