Green Flag Driver Experience Chief Instructor wins Doug Craig Hard Charger Award | ATLANTIC CITY, NJ ~ Green Flag Driving Experience chief instructor Tim Adams of Hamilton, N.J. may have had to settle for a third place finish behind Jeff Heotzler and Mike Dicely in Saturday’s (1/22/05) Gambler’s Classic which was contested inside Atlantic City’s famous Boardwalk Hall during a blizzard, but he impressed a lot of people along the way. After starting 18th in the 24-car main event field, Adams rocketed his open cockpit Midget racecar to that third place finish and passed more cars than anyone else in the event. The effort not only thrilled the fans, but impressed a panel of judges enough for them to award Adams with the Doug Craig Memorial Hard Charger Award, worth $555.55. The award is presented in the memory of one of the most successful racecar drivers in the northeast. Craig lost his life in an airplane crash last year. ”This is really an honor,” Adams said. “I knew Doug Craig pretty well and he was a great guy. I also raced with his son, Steve. It is a real nice family and Doug Craig was well known for his driving talents. I’m also very proud that we could come from 18th to third in such a talented field. Last year we came from 18th to finish second. Maybe next year we’ll come from the back to win.” Adams was not the only Green Flag Driving Experience instructor to advance from the 80-car roster into the 24-car main event field. Frank Polimeda of Fort Lee ran in the top five early, only to spin and restart from the rear of the field to finish eighth. Chris Zrinski of Toms River placed 17th, while Steve Stull of Hamilton was 21st. The Green Flag Driving Experience, which has made it possible for hundreds of race fans to live out their dream of driving an open cockpit Midget racecar, a Legend Car or a Modified stock car during the last three seasons, will conduct morning classes in Florida at Orlando Speedworld from February 14 though 19, 2005 during the three-eighths mile oval’s Legend Cars Winternationals.
