Happy New Year from New Smyrna Speedway and Team FASCAR | by Jane Smith
Samsula, Fla. (December 29, 2004) 2005 is looking us square in the face now and saying "this has got to be a better year for Florida racing." After four major hurricanes and countless damage to tracks, 2005 looks to be finally here and hopefully with a much better year in store for all of us.
Team FASCAR would first like to say "Happy New Year" to all the racing family and hopefully 2005 will be a good year for all of us although 2004 has definitely been a year no one will forget.
New Smyrna Speedway will reopen on January 8th for the Riverfest 300, formerly known as the Red Eye 100. Super Lates will go for 100 laps of racing action along with the Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Strictly Stocks. Two new touring series will also debut on the 8th, the Pro Trucks and Quick Kids. No matter what the temperature next Saturday, all the racing action should keep fans warm.
Team FASCAR has been working hard in their off season getting Orlando SpeedWorld, New Smyrna Speedway and Columbia Motorsports Park back into top shape. "We started with Orlando SpeedWorld and will end up at Columbia Motorsports Park," said Don Nerone, General Manager. "There are things we wanted to accomplish at each track and hopefully the weather will hold and fans will be welcomed back with many surprises."
"We saw more rainouts this year than we have ever seen and basically from August 13 until the 1st of October, we were lucky if we got one race in. We all suffered damage one way or another from the hurricanes and at times it was very hard putting back the tracks and our lives at the same time. Getting hit by one hurricane is bad enough but when three come right thru the same place, it is something that no one expects. Electricity was no longer something we just expected to have, it was a gift from the power company to get it back."
As the old year goes out and the new year comes in, we wish all our drivers, crews, and fans the best. Stay safe over the New Year's weekend and we will see you at New Smyrna Speedway on Saturday, January 8th as we welcome the new year in with the Riverfest 300.
Happy New Year everyone!!!!! Have an opinion on this story? Post a message on our Message Board! or send a letter to the editor!
