New Smyrna winds down to the wire for 2004 Champions | by Jane Smith Samsula, Fla. (November 10, 2004) With only two races left in the 2004 season, racing is hot and heavy at New Smyrna Speedway. All divisions - Super Lates, Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Strictly Stock will be in action this weekend. A number of Super Lates are expected this Saturday night as next Saturday night will be the Governor's Cup and many would like some of that on-track shake-down time for their Super Lates. David Rogers is the 2004 Super Late Model Champion and will return to racing in 2005 after healing from his accident at Orlando SpeedWorld. Saturday night will be a night of surprises in the Super Late Model division. Late Models should also be out in full force as the second thru tenth place are not yet down in ink. Don Hess has won the 2004 Championship but the rest of the top ten will be decided in the next two races. Bobby Blake has the Open Wheel Modified Championship in his pocket but he does not plan to sit back and not race. Blake blew his motor two weeks ago and ran Mark Vandevender's No. 7 last weekend. You can be sure that Blake will be in the mix even though he could sit out and still win the Championship. Donny Williams has the Sportsman Championship in his pocket with Dale Clouser in a solid second. Both these drivers will return for the last race on November 27th. Chris Peludat had a great Saturday last week and hopes to find another win under his belt along with Mike Soukup, Paul Hudson, John Nusbaum, Ron Lufcy, Bruce McGonigal and Tom Gamache. Ron Whaley is the 2004 Super Stock Champion but he has got to race no matter what. Josh Wronkowski would like a win under his belt and was very strong last weekend. Jason Foster has had a very good year in Super Stock and would also like that win at New Smyrna. Watch as theses guys race their hearts out for the win. Ted Vulpius and Brian Bellaw are in a good points battle for the Mini Stock Championship. Vulpius had problems with his No. 71 and drove Chad Carpenter's Mini Stock last weekend for points. Bellaw has won the last two races and still has hopes of winning the Championship. These two guys put on one heck of a show each week as they go side-by-side for the win. Grandstands will open at 6 p.m. with racing action at 7:30 p.m. Be sure to be there for the next to last season race for the stars of New Smyrna Speedway. Have an opinion on this story?
