TBARA Sprints Ignite Citrus 8 Divisions 2004 Finale | by Larry MacMillan
(Inverness, Fl. 11/10/04) Citrus County Speedway will go all out Saturday night, with a bang, featuring 8 divisions to close out the final regular season race night.
The super fast TBARA Winged Sprints opened Citrus’ 2004 season with their season opener and will end their championship series right where it began. These 750 horsepower rockets run the 3/8ths mile oval on an average of one second faster than the Super Late Models and hold the track speed record in the low 12 second bracket. In the past two races they have run in the series, an average of 25 drivers have shown up for the show with Leesburg’s Dude Teate coming into their final race of the season with a slim 14 point lead over Wayne Reutimann Sr. with 44 drivers earning points in this season. Other drivers in the hunt for the championship are Doug Heveron, Keith Butler, Gary Gimmler, David Slawiak, most recent winner David Steele and young rookie of the year leader Troy DeCaire. Ray Bragg and John Gilbert Jr. round out the top ten in the race for the crown. This race will definitely satisfy your need for speed.
The wild and crazy Figure 8’s will make 100 trips through the intersection in their 50 lap end of the season special. The Hobby Stocks are also scheduled to close out the season with another 50 lapper that can get kind of wild in its own right.
Added to all this speed and mayhem will be feature races for the Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Thunder Stocks and 4 Cylinder Bombers. If any race cars are left after all this action, the ladies who were able to talk their significant others out of the driver’s seat will wrap up the night and the regular season of racing with the Annual Non Professional Women Drivers “Powder Puff” race. This race is reserved for women who have never raced in any division, at any time. And none of you guys are allowed to cross dress to enter (which incidentally has happened before. The poor guy didn’t pass the post race physical.)
The 2004 racing season will officially end with the Winter Spectacular Super Late Model 150 scheduled for December 3rd and 4th. There will be an open practice on Thursday night December 2nd. Friday night December 3rd will be Late Model qualifying time trials followed by a 75 lap Last Chance race, a 75 lap Mini Stock race, a 50 lap Super Stock race, a DEMO DERBY and a Bar B Q.
Saturday night will feature the Winter Spectacular Super Late Model 150 plus Open Wheel Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and Thunder Stocks, ending the 49th racing season at Citrus County Speedway.
The Annual Awards Banquet will be held at the Citrus County Auditorium on Friday night December 10th. Everyone is invited and tickets are on sale on race nights at the front gate and on practice nights and race nights at the pit office. Tickets are $18 per person or $35 per couple with awards, dining, dancing and entertainment. Don’t miss this holiday party.
