Points are tight as Season Winds Down, FASTRUCKS/FASTKIDS make last appearance in 2004 this Saturday at New Smyrna | by Jane Smith Samsula, Fla. (November 3, 2004) FASTRUCKS and the FASTKIDS return to New Smyrna Speedway for their final show this Saturday, November 6. Last Friday night at Orlando SpeedWorld, twenty-two trucks showed up on a Friday night with many more expected for a Saturday night show. Along with the FASTRUCKS/FASTKIDS will be the Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Strictly Stock with the Super Stock having double features from last week's lights going out just as they were ready to go on the track due to the power company losing a line. The Super Late models are off due to the second leg of the Triple Crown at Citrus County Speedway. Don Hess has got the 2004 Late Model Championship in his pocket with two more races after Saturday night. But the rest of the top ten could go up or down in these last three races. In second is Mark Smith with a fifty-two point lead over newcomer Troy Atkins. Josh Schmidt stands fourth but has not been competing due to a blown engine and could be moved down if Sam Watts has his way. Watts has been running very good and stands only fifty two points behind Schmidt. Rounding out the top five is Alan Bruns who has not given Watts a huge lead as Bruns is only 40 points behind Watts. Rounding out the top ten are Phillip Bessette, Dewayne Barrus, Jeff Colburn, David Pletka, and Randy Dye. Bobby Blake looks to be the 2004 Open Wheel Modified Champion but does not intend to let any grass grow under his feet in these last few weeks. Matt Wheeler comes in second and has a fairly large lead over third place Mark Vandevender. Ed Kuhel stands fourth with Brad May in fifth. Rounding out the top ten are Jim "Hoot" Flynn, Alan Bruns, Dave Savicki, Chad Pierce and David Hite. Donny Williams has got the Sportsman Championship in his pocket with Dale Clouser in second. These two drivers will be off for two weeks due to some horseplay on the track but both will return for the last race of the year. Williams and Clouser have no fear while they are gone about losing any spots as they lead over third place John Nusbaum 200 points. Mike Soukup and Bruce McGonigal round out the top five. Pual Hudson, Chris Peludat, Ken Lewton, Tom Gamache and Cory Kaiser compete the Sportsman top ten. Ron Whaley has won the Super Stock Championship and no one can challenge his almost 400 point lead. Josh Wronkowski is in second but not far behind Wronkowski is Barry Parks and right behind Parks is Jeff Colburn. With a few good race finishes, these positions could change any way. Jack Lenzen stands fifth in points followed by Charlie Collins, James Adams, Chuck Smith, Stephen Dembinsky and Danny Lester. Ted Vulpius leads the Mini Stock field but Brian Bellaw has not given up his title search yet. Vulpius only holds a 68 points lead over Bellaw and with three races left, that could change. Chad Carpenter stands third in points followed closely by Alli Owens and Ben Cutler Jr. Mark Broat, Rex Christensen, Ron Dubeau, Rick Gamache, and Ronald Karto Jr. complete the top ten. Pit gates will open at 3 p.m. on Saturday with qualifying for the FASTUCKS/FASTKIDS at 6:30 p.m. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $15.00, students and seniors are $10.00, children 11 and under are free.
