Corteco Gaskets / GulfCoast Modifieds Return to Bronson Motor Speedway | By Rick Warren
This Sunday, November 7, 2004, the racers of the Corteco Gaskets / GulfCoast Modifieds continue their Chase for the Championship on the high banks of Bronson Motor Speedway.
The Series started the season at Bronson with an exciting race that was won by Dwayne Dempsey. This race was originally scheduled to be the final race of the year for the series, but due to inclement weather conditions, and hurricane damage, this race is now the sixth race in the eight race series.
The battle for the points championship is still wide open, with several racers within striking distance of the lead. The series has had 5 different winners, and 5 different fast qualifiers in the 5 races run so far this season. The battle for rookie of the year is an exciting race as well. Mike Hinegardner is the current leader in the rookie battle, and has 1 win in the series, at Sunshine Speedway.
As this race will also be a points race for the Bronson Modified Division, several of the Bronson Regulars are expected to compete. Current Point Leader at Bronson, Gene Owen is expected to make the race, along with Kevin Durden, who has won the last 3 feature races at Bronson. Can the locals be competitive with the touring racers, or will the GulfCoast Drivers steal the thunder? One series regular that must be considered as a possible favorite is Lee Collins, who is coming off impressive wins at Lakeland and New Smyrna. Another would be Dwayne Dempsey, who has already shown that he knows how to hustle a race car around Bronson Speedway. Others to be included in the list of favorites would have to include Wayne Jefferson, Mike Hinegardner, Danny Partelo, Teddy Nelson, John Anderson, Robby McAulliffe, Ralph Bowman, and Billy Mowery. This list is by no means complete, as these drivers in this series have all shown that they have what it takes to run up front.
Mark your Calendars, you wont want to miss this one ! Come watch some of the best modified racers in the state compete for the win and the points race. Gates open at noon on Sunday, racing begins at 2:00 PM.
