Columbia Gears Up as Racing Season Winds Down | by Jane Smith Lake City, Fla. (October 20, 2004) As racing season winds down, the points battle heats up at Columbia Motorsports Park. Doyle Boatwright has a substantial lead over second place newcomer Al Berry. This is Berry'sn first season and so far he has done a very good job in his Super Late. Jimmy Andrews stands third followed by Aaron Dreher and Gale Grayer. Don Hale, David Hodges, Dennis Nixon, Billy Dean and Al Beckelheimer round out the top ten. These guys always put on a great show for Columbia fans. Last weekend a few of the regular Open Wheel Modifieds drivers went to Lakeland's USA International for the 75 lap Penske Racing Shocks United Pro Modified State Championship. But you can beat that they will be back in action this Saturday night under the stars at Columbia Motorsports Park. Dale Mosley leads the Columbia Modified points with 1646 points over second place Tom Roberts with 1346 points. Charles Seroki stands third with 875 points followed by Steve Broickhouse with 770 and John Mitchell with 692. Jason Garver, Mark Bergman, J.F. McClellan, Greg Nordstrom and Wayne Parker round out the top ten in Open Wheel Modifieds hunt for the crown. Josh Bedenbaugh leads John Roling in the Pure Stock division by only 110 points. Both Bedenbaugh and Roling have 8 wins under their belts and it looks like this one will go down to the wire. Caleb Mahler stands third with 1535 points and has a heavy lead over fourth place Ronine Cook with 992 points. John Oliver is fifth with 452 points. Allan Jones, Marty Wood, Brandon Muncey, Adam Hitt, and Frank Fegel round out the top ten in Pure Stocks. Brad Fiene leads the Street Stock division with 1987 points and two wins. David Hart runs second with 1664 points followed by Kelly Barber with 1312, Dave Barber with 1218 and Jason Garver with 1043. Nevin Gainey stands sixth with 639 points with Roy Crain in seventh with 601 points. John Mitchell, Jeff Prescott, and Andy Kennedy round out the top ten. Plus the Hornets will be a buzzin this Saturday night at Columbia. Never a dull moment with the Hornets on thet track. Plus there will be a kids bike race so kids bring your helmets and come go racing at Columbia Saturday night. Grandstands open at 6 p.m. with racing action at 7:30 p.m. Have an opinion on this story?
