Citrus Realigns High Powered Season Closeout Schedule | by Larry MacMillan
(Inverness, Fl. 9/21/04) Over the next seven weeks Late Model fans will be treated to more high powered action than they have seen all season at Citrus County Speedway. Starting this Saturday night, the Super Late Models will be running every other week through November 6th.
Kicking off the multi feature Saturday nights will be Twin 50’s this weekend. Time trials will set up qualifying for the first race. The Super Lates will run a pair of 50 lap features for two graduating winner’s purses. Twenty eight of Florida’s best hot shoes made it for the last Twin 50’s run at the 3/8th mile venue on August 7th. They put on quite a show that saw Herb Neumann Jr. take the first win followed by another local Jim Smith, Florida Pro point leader Rich Pratt, local John Chance and former Late Model Champion Mike Bresnahan. After a 10 minute rest stop in the infield 30 racers took the green flag for the second 50 lap main that saw young Brock Oglesby outrunning Wayne Anderson for the win. Rookie Daniel Webster, Danny Johnson and Raymond Lovelady locked on to the top five spots. Also on the race card this weekend will be the Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Thunder Stocks and 4 Cylinder Bombers.
This weekend’s action will set the scene for the Triple 50’s, rescheduled for Saturday night October 9th after being postponed on September 4th due to Hurricane Charley. Another pair of Twin 50’s is scheduled for Saturday October 23rd. These three Late Model races will be for local points as well as increased purses. Wrapping up the four weeks of action will be the Second Leg of the “Triple Crown” on November 6th. Add it up and it totals 350 laps of Super Late Model racing to close out the 2004 racing season.
Hurricane Frances postponed the ENDURO 150 and it has been rescheduled October 30th as a part of the Halloween Trick or Treat night. Spicing up that show will be a Super Stock 50, Modified 30, Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks, The Florida Open Wheel Lites and 4 Cylinder Bombers.
It was announced this week that Citrus County Speedway will present a three day “Winter Spectacular” December 2nd through the 4th. Thursday December 2nd will be a practice session for all divisions. December 3rd will be Late Model Qualifying plus a 75 lap Late Model race plus a 75 lap Mini Stock, 50 lap Super Stock races and the postponed Demolition Derby plus a Bar-B-Q in the pits.
