Corteco Gaskets/GulfCoast Modifieds Sunshine Speedway race set for Sept 4.

Due to the enormous volume of rain that the Sunshine State has received in the last month, and the horrific damage caused by Hurricane Charlie, the Gulfcoast Modified race at Sunshine Speedway is now scheduled for September 4, 2004.

The racers are all fired up and ready to roll, wanting to continue the chase for the Championship, and also determine who will take Rookie of the Year honors. At the last event, when the event was postponed due to the weather, 25 drivers had already signed in for the event, with more waiting in line outside the pit entrance.

The Series Championship carries a healthy payout, with a posted $5000 prize for the champ, and a total of $20,000 dollars for the top ten in points at the end of the season. Lee Collins is the current leader in the point standings, followed closely by Mike Hinegardner and Dwayne Dempsey. Also still up for grabs is the Rookie of the Year title, with a $1000 prize, sponsored by the Race Place. Hinegardner is also leading in the Rookie of the Year competition, with a slight lead over Chris Escott.

The series also has cash awards at each race for Fastest Qualifier and the Hard Charger Award. The series has had over 50 different racers participate this year, and expects to continue to draw a good field of racers at each event.

This will be a great race, with the best of the best Modified Drivers in Florida all trying to claim the checkered flag for the win. You dont want to miss this one! Hope to see you there for some great short track racing!!
