All Seven FASCAR Divisions are on the program for Saturday Night Action | by Jane Smith Samsula, Fla. (July 28, 2004) All seven FASCAR divisions will be running this Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway. On the program for Saturday night's action are the Super Late Models, Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Strictly Stocks. Althought not many Super Lates have ventured to New Smyrna Speedway lately, David Rogers leads the points for that division with 448 points. For David not to win the Super Late Model Championship, he would have to miss at least 4 races or more and that will not happen. Eric Black stands second in points with 268 points follwed by Guy Thomas of Jacksonville with 220 points. B.J. McLeod is fourth with 180 points followed by Wayne McCall in fifth with 124 points. Brent Hobbs, Rick Bates, Dick Anderson, Fain Skinner and Jacob Warren round out the top ten. Don Hess still leads the Late Model division in points with 412. But Mark Smith is not yet ready to give up the fight and stands only 44 points behind Hess. Only 24 points behind Smith is young Troy Atkins. But Atkins has no rest as Josh Scmidt is only 20 points behind Atkins. Phillip Bessette rounds out the top five with 192 points.
Completing the top ten are Dewayne Barrus, Randy Dye, David Pletka, Ernest Worley and Chad Pierce. Fifty four points separate the 2003 Open Wheel Modified Champion Bobby Blake and the 2003 Orlando SpeedWorld Open Wheel Modified Champion Matt Wheeler. Blake wants a repeat Championship and Wheeler wants his first, only time will tell who will be "King of the Hill". Mark Vandevender is third in points with 240 points followed by Ed Kuhel with 192 points. Brad May completes the top five with 156 points. Chad Pierce, Dave Savicki, Alan Bruns, Tank Tucker and Jim "Hoot" Flynn complete the top ten for the Modified run for the gold. Donny Williams has nothing to prove after missing last year for military duty. Williams came back with the same old fire which has once again put him in first place in the Sportsman division. Williams holds a 168 point lead over Dale Clouser. Clouser and Williams race each other hard every Saturday night and each have won many times but unless Williams has some bad nights and misses some nights, it looks like Donny Williams will be the 2004 Sportsman Champion. Chris Peludat stands third but is currently building a new motor which has allowed Paul Hudson some catching up time. Hudson now stands only 4 points behind Peludat in fourth. Peludat's motor should be done any time now. John Nusbaum rounds out the top five with 304 points. Mike Soukup, Bruce McGonigal, Ken Lewton, Cory Kaiser, and Tom Gamache round out the top ten. Ron Whaley leads the Super Stock division with 640 points followed by Jeff Colburn in second with 488 points. Colburn, who demolished his No. 3 Super Stock two weeks ago, is reportedly working on another one. Josh Wronkowski stands third with 458 points and only twenty points behind Colburn. Barry Parks and Jack Lenzen round out the top five. James Adams, Charlie Collins, Chuck Smith, Stephen Dembinsky and Mike Soukup round out the top ten. After last week's disqualification of the No. 1 Mini Stock, Ted "Mr Mini Stock" Vulpius took over the point lead for the Mini Stocks by 8 points. But don't think that Bellaw is giving up because his team is not. Bellaw will have the No. 1 Mini back at the track on Saturday and ready to do battle with Vulpius again. Chad Carpenters is 100 points behind Vulpius in third followed by Alli Owens and Mark Broat. Ron Dubeau, Ben Cutler, Rex Christensen, Ron Karto Jr., and Rick Gamache complete the top ten. Also in action will be the Strictly Stocks where you never know unitl the last minute who will be top dog. Some say this is the best class to watch for beating and banging and spinning and who knows who will win class. New Smyrna Speedway grandstands will open at 6 p.m. General admission is $10.00, students and senior $5.00, children under 11 free. Racing action starts at 7:30 p.m.
New Smyrna Speedway is located between SR44 and SR415 between I-4 and I-95 eight miles west of New Smyrna in beautiful Samsula, Florida. Have an opinion on this story? Post a message on our Message Board! or send a letter to the editor!
