July 6

New Smyrna Speedway to see plenty of Racing Action this Saturday, July 10th

by Jane Smith

Samsula, Fla. (July 6, 2004) Hopefully the rains will stay away this Saturday, July 10th, as New Smyrna Speedway has a full race card for fans. On the card for Saturday night will be the Super Late Models, Late Models, Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Strictly Stocks. The Thunder Roadsters are also scheduled for the program this Saturday. Open Wheel Modifieds will have the night off as the Penske Racing Shocks United Pro Modifieds go for 50 laps at Columbia Motorsports Park in Lake City.

Leading the points for the Super Late Models will be David Rogers with 328 points. But second in points Eric Black still has high hopes of catching Rogers and just maybe get a Championship of his own. Black stands at 268 points. B.J. McLeod stands third with 180 points followed by Guy Thomas with 148 and Wayne McCall with 124.

Don Hess took over the points lead two weeks ago from Mark Smith. Hess leads the way for the Lates with 320 points but only 16 points behind Hess is Josh Schmidt. But Schmidt still has to watch out as Mark Smith now stands third in points but only 8 points behind Schmidt and 24 points behind Hess. Troy Atkins comes in fourth with 288 points followed by Dewayne Barrus in fifth with 144 points.

Although the Open Wheel Modifieds will have the weekend off, on their returns it is Bobby Blake leading the points with 360 points. But coming up fast is Matt Wheeler with 296 points. Mark Vandevender comes in third with 212 points followed by Ed Kuhel with 148 points and Chad Pierce with 140 points.

Donny Williams has been on fire this season and has a 172 point lead which is going to be very hard to beat or catch up to. Chris Peludat sits second in points with 344 points followed by Dale Clouser with 308 points and looking to go up and pass Peludat. Paul Hudson, who moved from Super Stock to Sportsman, has been doing quite well and stands fourth in points with 280 points followed by John Nusbaum in fifth with 228 points.

Brian Bellaw is leading the Mini Stock points with 392 points. But only 48 points behind Bellaw is 2003 Mini Stock Champion Ted "Mr Mini Stock" Vulpius. But Chad Carpenter is leaving no room for Vulpius to feel comfortable as Carpenter runs only 20 points behind Vulpius with 324 points. Newcomer Alli Owens comes in fourth with 236 points followed by Ron Dubeau with 208 points.

Ron Whaley leads the Super Stock division with 528 points but Jeff Colburn, who stands second at 444 points, is NOT giving up yet. Colburn also has his eye on the Championship and plans to make Whaley really work for it. Josh Wronkowski stands third with 385 points followed by Barry Parks with 312 points and Charlie Collins, the 2003 Championship, comes home fifth in points with 272 points.

Grandstands will open at 6 p.m. with racing action at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $10.00, $5.00 for Students and Senior Citizens and children 11 and under are FREE.

New Smyrna Speedway is located between SR 415 and the newly named Clyde Hart Highway between I-4 and I-95 eight miles west of New Smyrna in beautiful Samsula, Florida.
