New Smyrna Speedway gears up for FASTRUCKS/FASTKIDS this Saturday

by Jane Smith

Samsula, Fla (June 16, 2004) The FASTRUCKS and FASTKIDS return to the high banks of New Smyrna Speedway this Saturday for their second visit of the 2004 racing season. Tommy King and George Morales come to New Smyrna Speedway both with high hopes of taking the lead for the FASTRUCK Series points. Morales and King are currently tied at 540 points each.

Jeff Firestine holds only a six points lead over fourth place James Wright III with Firestine at 516 points and Wright at 510. But Wright has little room to mess up as Tim Shaffner only stands two points behind Wright with 508 points.

Marty Zehr stands sixth in points with 502 followed by Sean Bass in seventh with 494. Jimmy Gill stands only two points behind Bass in eighth with 492 points. Rounding out the top ten are David Pollen Jr. in ninth with 484 and Brandon Andersen in tenth with 452 points.

These guys definitely put on a show and are expected to have a number of trucks in attendance at New Smyrna. Matt Martin leads the way for the FASTKIDS who will give the crowd 25 laps of racing excitement.

The Super Late Models along with the Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks and Strictly Stocks will also be on the Saturday night program.

After having a few weeks off, Super Lates return as David Rogers holds the points lead with 272 points. Eric Black sits second with 196 followed by B.J. McLeod in third with 180 points. Guy Thomas stands fourth with 116 points followed by Brent Hobbs in fifth with 92 points.

Dick Anderson and Rick Bates are tied in sixth and seventh with 80 points each followed by Wayne McCall with 76 in eighth. Dick Ruckh and Bruce Lawrence round out the top ten.

Bobby Blakes has worked up a pretty good lead in the Open Wheel Modifieds as he leads the pack with 312 points. Matt Wheeler comes in second with 224 points followed by Ed Kuhel in third with 148 points. Chad Pierce stands fourth with 140 points followed by Mark Vandevender in fifth with 132 points.

Brad May, Jim "Hoot" Flynn, Dave Savicki, Glen Bradley and Tank Tucker round out the top ten in modifieds.

After a two week absence, Donny Williams returns to lead the Sportsman division. Williams has already built up a good points lead and the two weeks did not seem to hurt his lead. Following Williams in second is Chris Peludat with 280 points. Ken Lewton, Paul Hudson, and last Friday and Saturday night 50 lapper winner Dale Clouser round out the top five. Completing the top ten are Cory Kaiser, Bruce McGonigal, Earl Beckner, John Nusbaum, and Joe Gerard.

Ron Whaley leads the way in the Super Stock division with 420 points followed by Jeff Colburn with 324 points. Josh Wronkowski stands third with 301 points followed by Barry Parks in fourth with 252 points and 2003 Champion Charlie Collins in fifth with 244 points. Jack Lenzen, James Adams, Stephen Dembinsky, Chuck Smith and Mike Soukup round out the top ten.

Brian Bellaw holds the points lead in the Mini Stock division with 392 points followed by 2003 Champion Ted "Mr Mini Stock" Vulpius in second with 344 points. Chad Carpenter stands third with 324 points followed by Alli Owens in fourth with 346 points. Ron Dubeau rounds out the top five with 208 points. Mark Broat, Ronald Karto Jr., Ben Cutler Jr., Wayne Wells, and Jamie Dixon round out the top ten.

New Smyrna Speedway is located on SR44 and SR415 between I-4 and I-95 eight miles west of New Smyrna in beautiful Samsula. Pit gates will open at 2 p.m. on Saturday with main grandstands opening at 6 p.m. Racing will begin at 7:30 p.m.
