King Scores Top Five, Shares Points Lead of FASTRUCK | Rick Bristol / C.A.R.S. Racer Marketing June 5th Orlando FL. - Defending series champion Tommy King would drive his P & H Mining Chevrolet to a fifth place finish at Columbia Motorsports Park in Lake City FL. Rain washed out qualifying for the 75 main event and the starting order was set by points. That placed King on the pole as the points leader. King would get a good start and lead most of the of the race. " We did not get the truck dialed in where we wanted to as the rain shortened our practice. I was not sure what I would have going into turn one on the first lap. The truck ended up being pretty good and we were able to lead quite a bit" said King The first major challenge came from Todd Bontrager, the two got together off turn four and Bontrager ended up in the wall hard. " I am not sure what happened my spotter told me he was coming and I ran a conservative exit off turn four, then I felt heavy contact. I nearly spun but then more contact straightened out my truck and I continued. My spotter told me Todd had hit hard and was not moving. Thank goodness he then came out of the truck ok. We have talked and agree it was just a racing deal" added King. Things would sour toward the end of the event for the #16 Silverado as a fast Dustin Skinner made his way to the front after a rough driving penalty early in the race put him to the rear of the 23 truck field. When Skinner got to King he tried the bump and run move several times but finally had to go up top to get by, and did. " My spotter told me he was coming through the field with the old bump and run method. I was determined to at least make him go to the outside. He tried several times to knock me up the track but I wasn't budging" said King. Skinner went on to the win and King slipped up the track and lost several positions at the end as the truck went away on him just a little. He would checker in the fifth spot and now shares the points lead with the driver who finished second in the race George Morales. They hold a 24 point lead over Jeff Firestine who sits third. The P & H Mining Equipment, Bob Elliotts Greenwood Chevrolet, Hawk Brakes, Mothers Car Wash,Suspension Spring Specialists,Racemate Alternators,Wiggins Construction Chevrolet will ready for a June 19th event at the New Smyrna Speedway. "We look forward to New Smyrna ,we seem to run good there every time, we will be prepared. This points battle is tight we have to be on our game" ended King. Have an opinion on this story?
