Eleven Racing Divisions Highlight SpeedWorld Weekend | ELEVEN RACING DIVISIONS HIGHLIGHT SPEEDWORLD WEEKEND There will be plenty of action for race fans this weekend at Orlando Speedworld as the busy summer racing season begins.
Friday night, all six regular FASCAR divisions will be racing with Orlando's Ricky Wood currently leading the points in two classes. With another victory last Friday, Wood opened up his point lead in the Super Late Models to 24 points over Jared Allison. Mike Hinegardner, Patrick Conrad and Bobby Fleckinger round out the current top five in the Super Late Model point chase.
Normally, the Super Late Models would not be competing on the same night as a FASCAR Sunbelt Series race (the Powell Memorial at Citrus County Speedway), but the Sunbelt date was changed recently to this Friday after the Speedworld schedule had been finalized.
Since most of the Super Late model regulars at Speedworld do not compete in the Sunbelt Series on a regular basis, track officials opted to keep them on the schedule this week as plenty of cars are expected both here and at Citrus for the Powell Memorial.
Ricky Wood also remains on top of the Modified point standings by 68 over Clermont's Mark Emberson. Hoot Flynn's win last week propelled him to third in points over Chad Pierce and Wayne Heckle.
Chad Ashley's second win of the year last Friday put the Auburndale driver 66 points up on Dick Laszlo in the chase for the Mini Stock points title. Sean Bass, victim of a hard crash last Friday, is third in points trailed by R.J. Arnone and rookie Stephen Simpson.
With the exception of Florida Mini Stock Challenge Series races, last Friday's field of Mini Stocks was the biggest at Speedworld in over two years as the class is on the rebound after some lean times.
Despite a DNF last week, Richard Hight of Intercession City continues to lead the Sportsman points chase by 56 over rookie Bobby Joe Woodley who also suffered a DNF last week. Bruce Gayton, Justin Hall, and Bill Hall round out the top five. Congratulations are in order once again for Spencer Lemmerman who got his first win last week in the Sportsman class.
Bob Beiler of Melbourne Beach holds a slim twelve point advantage over Ted Head in Super Stocks. Head picked up another win last week to help trim Beiler's advantage over him. Ron Whaley remains third in points ahead of Bill Loomis and John Castro.
Patrick Conrad again blitzed the field of RE/MAX Legends Cars last Saturday night and will be going for his 11th win of the season this week. Conrad leads arch-rival Sam Watts by 84 points and has a chance to build on that lead as Watts is expected to be racing in his truck with the FASTKIDS up in Lake City this weekend. Watts has won the last two FASTKIDS races including here at Speedworld a couple of weeks ago. In fact they are the first two FASTKIDS races he's run! Watts' debut in a Late Model unfortunately didn't go as well as he planned last weekend at New Smyrna.
Kevin Abbott sits third in RE/MAX Legends points followed by Jeremy Colangelo and Bobby Byars, who has a new car in his arsenal.
In Bandoleros, Gerald White, Jr. holds a 108 point advantage in the Bandits over Blake Eden and Ryan Rust, who are tied for second. Scott Jarrett has a 50 point lead over Brandon Thomson in the Young Guns division while Dave Jarrett leads the way in the Outlaw Class.
Again it looks like another shoot-out in the Hurricane class between the Ford of Greg Bruce and the VW of Bobby Crites, however several new machines are being readied to challenge these two as well as Pop Honaker's Dodge that he races every so often when he comes out of "retirement."
Pit gates open at 3PM Friday, grandstand gates at 6PM and racing starts at 8PM on the dot.
Saturday, pit gates open at 3PM, grandstands at 5:30PM, and racing begins promptly at 7PM with adult admission to the grandstands just five dollars on Saturday night. Kids eleven and under are free both nights.
