Super Lates Gear-up for Pete Orr Memorial Orange Blossom 125 | by Jane Smith Samsula, Fla. (May 12, 2004) Regular racing tops the bill for May 15 at New Smyrna Speedway. All FASCAR divisions will be racing - Super Lates, Lates, Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Strictly Stock. A number of Super Late Models are expected Saturday night with the Pete Orr Memorial Orange Blossom 125 just one week away. This race had to be rescheduled for May 22 after the original date was rained out. Expect to see a few surprises Saturday night as the Super Lates get ready for next week. Late models will return after having last Saturday off due to the Goodyear Challenge Late Model race. Troy Atkins leads the Late Model division in points followed by Josh Schmidt, Mark Smith, Don Hess and Randy Dye. Charlie Merz, Michael Williams, David Pletka, Rich Clouser and Tim Clark round out the top ten. Bobby Blakes leads the Open Wheel Modified division with 160 points but sneaking in fast is Chad Pierce who is only 20 points behind Blake. Matt Wheeler has wasted no time since coming back to racing after his marriage and now stands third in points with 124 points. Mark Vandevender and Jim Flynn round out the top five. Glenn Bradley, Tank Tucker, Ed Kuhel, Jerry Artuso and Brad May round out the top ten. Donny Williams leads the Sportsman with a 120 point lead over second place Ken Lewton. Dale Closuer stands third followed by Chris Peludat and Paul Hudson. Joe Gerard, Bruce McGonigal, Cory Kaiser, Tom Gamache and John Nusbaum round out the top ten. Brian Bellaw leads the Mini Stock division with 180 points over second place Ted "Mr Mini Stock" Vulpius with 164. Chad Carpenter, Ron Dubeau, and Wayne Wells round out the top five followed by Ben Cutler, Jr., Ron Karto Jr., Mark Broat, Alli Owens, and Pug Puglisi. The Mini Stocks will have to feature races this Saturday due to the rain out two weeks ago of their feature. Jeff Colburn and Ron Whaley are tied for the Super Stock points lead but don't expect that to last very long. Both would love to get that championship under their belts. Coming in third is Charlie Collins followed by Barry Parks and Josh Wronkowski. Jack Lenzen, Stephen Dembinsky, Chuck Smith, James Adams and Mike Soukup round out the top ten. Racing begins at 7:30 p.m. with grandstands opening at 6 p.m. New Smyrna Speedway is located between SR 44 and SR 415 between I-4 and I-95 eight miles west of beautiful Samsula, Florida.
