Area Ministers Head for Charlotte County Speedway | Press Release From Charlotte County:
Charlotte County Speedway is looking for the fastest pastor in all of Southwest Florida! Charlotte County Speedway is proud to present the first ever Faster Pastor race of Southwest Florida on Saturday, May 8, 2004.
The Faster Pastor race allows any minister that does not have any professional stock car driving experience, to compete in this fun filled event. This event was designed to give churches the opportunity to raise funds for their church in a fun and exciting way, as well as to give the fans of Charlotte County Speedway a new and enthusiastic event. At this point in time there are 12 pastors registered to race. However, there is still time for pastors to enter.
Here’s how it works:
Each church provides their own OEM stock street legal 4 cylinder equipped two or four door car, station wagon, or small size pick up truck, with “NO” modifications. The car is normally donated to the church by a car dealer or friend. The church youth group, seniors, or even the whole church takes part in preparing the car with painting, lettering, tuning the engine, etc. In most instances, there is no cost to the church as everything needed is donated. The car is decorated with the church name, expressions, symbols, etc. Decorations we have seen so far are flashing lights on the roof, radio with p.a. external speakers for the minister to sing or talk, or play music, and detailed paint schemes.
The church youth group and congregation are the pastors fan club. Each church that elects to participate has sold advance tickets for $15.00 each for admission to the Speedway. For each advance ticket sold by the church group, the church retains $7.50 of each $15.00 ticket sold. The churches have sold as many tickets as possible. For each advance ticket sold, the speedway will then contribute $1.00 into the drivers fund to be divided between the top 10 finishers of the event. The minister that wins the race will receive a large 1st Place trophy and all participants in the event will receive a participation trophy.
The race will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2004 with races scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. The Faster Pastor race is not a one time deal. Future race dates will be added to our schedule soon.
