Trucks, Sprints, and Outlaw Modifieds Visit Charlotte County Speedway | PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – Charlotte County Speedway steps out of its norm this Saturday night with four guest divisions dominating the racing scene at the Punta Gorda 3/8-mile paved oval.
We’re talking about truck racing, wingless sprint cars and open-wheel 4-cylinders to name a few.
Truck racing will come in the form of Fastruck, a series that travels the short tracks of Florida. Defending champ Tommy King of Bartow is the points leader through three races. He is just one point ahead of Marty Zehr.
The most recent Fastruck race was April 17 at New Smyrna, where Dustin Skinner took checkers. He is the son of NASCAR racer Mike Skinner, who will be on hand signing autographs this Saturday night at Charlotte County Speedway.
Fastruck will run a 75-lap feature this Saturday.
Also racing will be an offshoot of Fastrucks – Fastkids. This division is for the younger set. Through two races, Matt Martin, son of Mark Martin, is the points leader. He leads Dalton Zehr by just one point.
Fastsprint will bring its act to CCS this Saturday. There has only been one points race to date with Dude Teate of Leesburg winning at Auburndale.
The open-wheel 4-cylinders are a traveling series called Outlaw Modifieds. They have raced seven times this year. Arcadia’s Raymond Jones won the most recent race at DeSoto and is the current points leader. He is defending points champ.
There is just one regular division on the CCS schedule – Road Warriors.
Also on tap are fan participation races, school bus rides for kids and a gold rush magic penny pick-up also for children. The front gates open at 4 p.m. Qualifying begins at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.
Admission is $15 for adults, $13 for senior citizens and $5 for kids ages 6-11.
Charlotte County Speedway is located off Exit 161 of I-75 on Piper Road in Punta Gorda. For more information call 941-575-7223 or look at the web at www.charlottecountyspeedway.net
