The Earth Moves this Saturday night at New Smyrna with TBARA in the House

by Jane Smith

Samsula, Fla. (April 27, 2004) The earth will move this Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway as the Tampa Bay Area Racing Association comes to town with the fastest machines around, the Wing Sprints.

Talking about moving fast, these guys and gal fly. You can't take your eyes away or you will be lost as to who is running where.

Coming in to their tenth race of the season it is Dude Teate who holds a 26 point lead over second place Wayne Reutimann, Sr. But Doug Heveron leaves little room for Reutimann to make a mistake since Hevron is only 4 points behind Reutimann.

David Slawiak and Keith Butler stand fourth and fifth as Slawiak holds a 16 point lead over Butler. Coming in sixth is Wayne Reutimann Jr. followed by Shane Butler, Gary Gimmler, Stan Butler, father of Keith and Shane, and Mark Gimmler.

"These guys make the earth move and their show is the best. That four wide salute takes your breath away," said long-time fan Shelia Miller. "I love these guys and their show, nothing is better. Your heart feels like it is going to jump out of your chest when they fly by."

Also on the program will be the popular Mini Cups plus Late Models, Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Strictly Stocks.

Coming into Saturday's night race the Late Model division has a tie for the points lead. Josh Schmidt and Troy Atkins both have 132 points. Mark Smith stands only 8 points behind Atkins and Schmidt with 124 points but only four points behind Smith is Don Hess. Charlie Merz rounds out the top five with 84 points.

Donny Williams leads the points for the Sportsman division and also is the winner of last week's 50 lapper. Williams took over the lead last Saturday after Dale Clouser lost a seal in his rear-end and was blackflagged for slicking up the track.

Coming in second to Williams in points is Chris Peludat who has had his No. 27 Sportsman on rails lately. Ken Lewton stands third with 112 points followed by Dale Closuer and Cory Kaiser. These guys fight hard week after week and put on a great show. Can anyone beat Donny Williams??? To find out, be there.

Super Stocks return after having a week off with Ron Whaley in the points lead.but second place Jeff Colburn has given him little breathing room as Colburn only trails Whaley by 8 points.; Charlie Collins stands third with 116 points followed by Barry Parks and Jack Lenzen.

Brian Bellaw leads the Mini Stock division by 16 points over last year's Champion Ted "Mr Mini Stock" Vulpius. Chad Carpenter comes in third and only 8 points behind Vulpius. Ron Dubeau and Wayne Wells round out the top five.

Grandstands will open at 6 p.m. with racing action at 7:30 p.m. New Smyrna Speedway is located between Hwy 44 and Hwy 415 between I-4 and I-95 eight miles west of New Smyrna in beautiful Samsula, Florida..
