Figure 8s Help Light Up Citrus 49 Points Season | By Larry MacMillan
Inverness, Fl. - Race fans need to mark April 3rd on their calendar as Citrus County Speedway lights them up for their 49th regular point season. Three preseason races in February turned out to be a teaser for the local drivers and fans. Now its back to work after a one month time out for the Citrus County Fair. Thirty two weeks of racing are straight ahead with only one stop on July 3rd in deference to the P
Citrus will again have a variety of local racing divisions as well as traveling series making appearances through November, 13th 2004. Weekly divisions will include Super Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks, Thunder Stocks and 4 cylinder Bombers. Local Late Models will be racing once a month in twin 50 features and working on their own point system. Sportsman and Figure 8s will also be running a limited schedule on a once a month basis.
Adding to the excitement this season will be the traveling series that will include the fastest race cars on asphalt, the TBARA Sprints. Wayne Reutimann Jr. opened the 2004 season in February with a big win in a wild and super fast race that had him running in the low 12s in traffic. Other divisions will include the Pro Modifieds, Florida Pro and Sunbelt Super Late Models, FASTRUCKS, Open Wheel Lites, Mini Cup Cars and special races for each of the weekly divisions. This will probably be the season with the most variety in racing divisions in the history of the speedway.
Saturday will feature the first race of the season for the wild and crazy Figure 8 cars. They always put on a great show at Citrus. They were scheduled to run a preseason race but being a traveling series they had a conflicting race date that postponed the race until April 10th. Now it has been moved back to Saturday the 3rd. Again this year we can expect drivers from all over central Florida to come to a race course they love to run.
The Modifieds make their first of two appearances for April in a 30 lap feature run as the headliners for the night. The Sportsman division gets back on track with the first of their 40 lap monthly special races. Add the Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Thunder Stocks and the 4 Cylinder Bombers in heat and feature action to the race card and you have a great opening night as Citrus County Speedway adds another page in the history books for the third oldest race track in the state of Florida.
Citrus County Speedway is located two miles south of S.R. 44 on U.S. 41 at the Citrus County Fairgrounds in Inverness. Grandstand gates open at 4 PM and races get underway at 7 PM. Have an opinion on this story? Post a message on our Message Board! or send a letter to the editor!
