Team FASCAR opens 2004 Season this weekend at both Orlando SpeedWorld and New Smyrna Speedway | by Jane Smith Samsula, Fla. (March 9, 2004) Fans and racers are starting to get excited as they anticipate the 2004 Race Season openings at both Orlando SpeedWorld and New Smyrna Speedway. Some of the finest drivers and cars in stockcar racing will showcase both tracks in 2004. Orlando SpeedWorld will begin their season on Friday night, March 12th with Super Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Strictly Stocks. Returning to SpeedWorld will be the 2003 Super Late Model Champion Rusty Ebersole and runner-up B.J. McLeod along with Ricky Wood, Bobby Fleckinger, and a host of Super Late Model drivers. A number of Open Wheel Modifieds will return to the asphalt but one regular driver and former Track Champion will be sadly missing this year. Shain Held was hurt towards the end of 2003 at work and will not be able to race this year. But Shain plans to visit us often and give as much "help" time as possible with the other drivers. A good field of modifieds is expected each Friday night since the gear rule has gone back to "no" gear rule. There will also be plenty of action from the Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Strictly Stocks plus the new Saturday night show at SpeedWorld. New Smyrna Speedway will welcome back their season Saturday night, March 13th, On the program will be the Super Late Models, Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock, and Strictly Stock. New Smyrna will put aside regular racing on March 20th for the USAR Hooter's Pro Cup Series as they take on the high banks of New Smyrna. “We are really looking forward to this event and hope to have a sell-out crowd,” said Track Promoter Don Nerone. “If the field at Lakeland is any indication of the number of drivers coming, the fans will see one heck of a race.” “This year looks to be a great year just hope the weather holds out better than last year,” said Marketing Director at FASCAR Dick Gordon. “Too many rainouts and not enough racing, got to be better this year for sure.” Orlando SpeedWorld will open the front gates at 6 p.m. Friday night with racing action at 8 p.m. New Smyrna will open their front gates at 6 p.m. with racing action at 7:30 p.m. Orlando SpeedWorld is located between SR 50 and SR 520 in Bithlo, Florida.
