The World's Only Motorcycle Demolition Derby and Thrill Show | Samsula, Fla (February 25, 2004) On March 5th, the Motorcyle Demolition Derby and Thrill Show will return to New Smyrna Speedway for the seventeenth time. The popular motorcyle thrill show annually entertains overflow crowds of fans from all over the country during Bike Week. This year is no exception with the Speedway staff bringing back the most asked for events and added some new ones. The main draw is, of course, the Motorcycle Demolition Derby. The event is open to anyone who wishes to ride in it. The bikers are encouraged to enter their own motorcycles. Since very few riders choose to do this, the Speedway provides a large number of running bikes to pick from. The action is fast and furious with a no-holds-barred set of rules. Rule #1 is as follows: The last rider running is the winner. Rule #2 just refers you back to Rule #1. There are preliminary events and a monster feature event open to all the riders that survive the preliminaries. For added entertainment, the three-hour show will include several professional stuntmen doing what comes naturally. World famous stuntman "Death Wish" Dan Elders will attempt to blow himself up when he climbs into a coffin filled with sticks of dynamite and deliberately lights the fuse. Stuntman J.J. Steel will lay down a motorcycle at 70 mph and slide it through a curtain of fire. Stuntman and jet engine designer Fred Sibley will provide the fireworks when he burns a pile of motorcycles and cars into a molten heap of metal with his fire breathing 20,000 horsepower Miss Budweiser jet powered truck. Other stunts planned for the event will include the Trailer Trash event (described by the speedway special event department as crashing a car through a 60-foot mobile home end to end), a stuntman running a motorcycle through a towering wall of fire at 60 mph, an auto T-bone crash, the exciting rollover contest, and back by popular demand, the incredible Wall of Steel. Along with the planned stunts, the fans will be invited to come out of the grandstands to join the fracas with a wheelie contest, the world's largest beer chug, the racetrack's hilarious version of a wet T-Shirt contest, a motorcycle slow race and the always-popular weenie bite. Don't let the names of these events scare you off. This is one of the few events of bike week that the whole family can enjoy. Have an opinion on this story?
