TBARA Sprints Ready to Satisfy Need for Speed Saturday at Citrus | by Larry MacMillan
(Inverness, Fl. 2/1/04) If your need for speed has gotten the best of you, get ready to go racing this weekend at Citrus County Speedway. Three race nights have been scheduled at Citrus County Speedway beginning this Saturday night with the annual kick off of the TBARA Sprints Car season. This will be the first leg of the first four weeks for these 750 horsepower rockets and the fourth year in a row to use Citrus for their opener.
It was a mixed bag of winners in 2003 when the Sprinters made several trips to the 3/8ths mile. Young and old alike made their mark on the short track they love to run. Wayne Reutimann Sr., who probably has more laps at Citrus County Speedway than any other driver in the division, opened up last season with the win.
Then there were the young guns to contend with throughout the rest of the season with likes of Shane Butler, Keith Butler, Bo Hartley, Wayne Reutimann Jr., Doug Berryman, Leesburg’s Dude Teate and David Steele giving the heavy hitters plenty of competition. These race cars are the fastest ever to appear at this 49 year old venue turning the circuit in the low 12 second mark in traffic.
There is a lot of horsepower under the cowls and plenty of rubber on the ground and making the combination work plus some very quick thinking provides some of the best racing available in open wheel racing anywhere. The winged sprints are scheduled to open and close the 2004 season with another stop in mid season.
Added to the pre season show will be a 40 lap Sportsman race plus the Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Thunder Stocks and 4 Cylinder Bombers on opening night. Heat races and features will turn up the need for speed for the idle race fans with the ho-hum Saturday nights of winter.
Citrus will go dark on Saturday night February 14th for the Daytona 500 race. Pre season action picks up on February 21st with the Late Models returning for twin 50 lap features, plus the Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Thunder Stocks and 4 Cylinder Bombers in heat and feature action. February 28th will see a crasharama with a wild Enduro race, Demolition Derby and Figure 8’s go into Intersection action for their first outing of 2004.
The speedway will be take the entire month of March off for the Citrus County Fair activities and some electrical work that needs taking care of at the speedway and fairgrounds. The official 49th point season begins on Saturday night, April 3rd, with the open wheel Modifieds, a Sportsman 40, Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Thunder Stocks and 4 Cylinder Bombers turning it on.
