Southern Sportsman Series Debuts in 2004 | by Bill Green
Tampa, FL. (Jan. 12th, 2004). Southern Sportsman Series race fans will be glad to hear that the central Florida based program has released it's debut season schedule.
Falling between the very popular street stocks class and the ever growing limited late model classes, sportsman racing had a popular reign in the late 70's and early 80's on most of Florida's short tracks.
The Southern Sportsmen Series will begin to regroup the racers and fans, around the solid base leadership of Florida Mini Stock Challenge owner Todd Hutto.
Known for his diehard racing attitude and ability to organize events, racers and track owners, Todd budgets a great purse for the participants.
Finding the best people for the job within the organization seems to be his knack. Through his watchful eye and professional crew of officials, this new breed of Sportsman racer will have every opportunity to survive. And, survive well.
"As I told you before, it took awhile to convince myself that Florida was ready for this, but I believe with the feedback I'm getting so far, it will be a great success." Stated Hutto from his East Bay Raceway Park office. " I've gotten 5 definite race dates and will get 8 to 10 races total lined up for our first season."
Seems some of the tracks racing the very popular Florida Mini Stock Challenge have pick up race dates with the new Southern Sportsman Series to combine the two divisions into a one night show.
Allowing the popular Chevy 350, Chrysler 360 and Ford 351 power plants in 108-inch wheel based all steel cars, with a 450 cam limit and two barrel carburetors, racers will definitely see the Southern Sportsmen Series cost stay down, while the fun factor of traveling and racing all over Florida goes up!
