FASTRUCKS invade New Smyrna Speedway Saturday Night | by Jane Smith
Samsula, Fla (October 28, 2003) With the sudden death of one of our Sportsman's drivers in the heat race last Saturday night, races were cancelled. Homer Gordon, long time friend and racer of both Orlando SpeedWorld and New Smyrna Speedway, died on the last lap of the Sportsman heat of a massive heart attack.
Gordon, who was shaking down his brand new Sportsman, was pronounced dead at the track. Homer Gordon will be laid to rest on Thursday, October 30th. Team FASCAR extends their deepest sympathy to his mother, sister and brother. Homer, we will miss you but you will always be in all our hearts.
With the first leg of the Triple Crown running at Bronson Motor Speedway and the Goodyear Challenge Late Models running at Charlotte County Speedway, there will be no Super Lates or Late Models at New Smyrna Saturday night. FASTRUCKS will make their last appearance in 2003 Saturday night at New Smyrna. With only one race left after Saturday's night action, on November 15th at Charlotte County Speedway, it will be a points battle as the top ten are right there together.
Leading the points is Tommy King with 1843. Tim Shaffner comes in second at 1740 but only has a 15 point lead over third place James Wright III at 1725 points. Wendell Bristol comes home fourth with 1660 points but right on his tail just eight points back is Jimmy Gill at 1652.
Marty Wolf, well known at New Smyrna Speedway as he drove the No. 3 Sportsman last year, comes home sixth with 1604 points. Right behind Wolf is another well known Orlando SpeedWorld and New Smyrna Speedway racer Bobby Owens. Owens stands seventh and only 14 points behind Wolf with 1590.

A very close points battle is going on in the Mini Stock division. With only four points separating the top two and each driver determined, it will go right down to the end of season with this one.
