Ghosts & Goblins plus T.Q. Midgts and all FASCAR Divisions set for Halloween Night at SpeedWorld | by Jane Smith
Bithlo, Fla. (October 28, 2003) Ghosts and goblins, witches flyin overhead and stockcar action on the ground, what more could a Trick or Treater want?? Friday night at SpeedWorld will be not only Trick or Treat for the kids but T.Q. Midgets, Super Lates Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock, Strictly Stocks and Hurricanes.
With points season ending in two weeks, action on the track is getting "HOT". With some divisions very close in points, it is going to be some good racin going on for fans.
Derrick Wood has a 36 point lead over Chad Akins in the Bandolero Bandit division. Both these young drivers have taken their fair share of wins this season and the next two are very important to both.
Gerald White Jr. comes in third in Bandit points with 732 and looks like a shoe-in for third. However, the same cannot be said for fourth place Josh Williams and fifth place Matthew Jarrett. These two young drivers are only 4 points apart with Williams at 552 and Jarrett at 548.
Kevin Henry has the Young Guns Bandolero Championship in his pocket. Henry leads the points with 912, 160 more than second place Brandon Thomson. Henry could miss the next two races and still be the Champion.
Scott Jarrett comes in third with 740 points and is only 12 points behind Thomson. This still could go either way for second. Jessica Murphy stands fourth with 476 points followed by Troy Atkins with 436. But with Atkins being a no-show, sixth place Chelsea Schilling at 408 points could easily take over fifth in the next two races.
B.J. McLeod got his 53rd Super Late Model win last Friday night and once again tied the points for the lead with Rusty Ebersole. Both McLeod and Ebersole have 688 points and the way these two have raced each other all year, the Championship could go either one. This will be one of the best "last minute" runs to a Championship.
Ricky Wood has locked in third with 404 points followed by Ronnie Roach with 300. Rick Bates rounds out the top five with 268 points and could possibly get fourth if Roach has any problems in the next two races.
Another close points battle is Matt Wheeler and Shane Held in the Open Wheel Modified division. Wheeler leads the points with 624 but Held comes in 24 points behind Wheeler with 604. Watch as these two battle each other for the Championship. It would be Wheeler's first Championship but Held's second.
Lynn Dicandio moved into third with 472 points, 64 points ahead of fourth place Jason Boyd who stands at 408. Glen Bradley rounds out the top five with 360 points as he was a no-show last Friday night.
Richard Hight has the Sportsman Championship in his pocket as he leads the points with 767 points. Second place Donnie Smith comes in at 476 points and only 36 points behind Smith is Danny Shearer with 440 points.
Michael Albert and Justin Hall are tied in fifth with 368 points each but Albert has also been a no-show for some time and Hall should move to fourth if Albert does not come back.
Tim "Missileman" McPhail has won his second Mini Stock Championship as he leads that division with 692 points. Dick Laszlo took over second with 516 points but still in the battle is Sean Bass who comes in at 492 points in third. Randy Blakeslee stands fourth with 272 points followed by R.J. Arnone in fifth with 224 points.
Cory Freed has won his second consecutive Super Stock Championship leading the points by 684 enough margin to not race the last two races. Coming in second is Ron Whaley with 488 points followed closely by Bob Wines with 448. Bob Beiler comes in fourth with 416 points followed by Andy Nichols with 292 points.
Grandstands open at 6 p.m. with racing action at 8 p.m. Orlando SpeedWorld is located between SR50 and SR520 in Bithlo, Florida.
Orlando SpeedWorld was saddened to learn of the sudden death of one of our racers and friend Homer Gordon. Homer raced many years in the Super Stock class in the No. 22 and was known by many as "the lady killer".
Gordon was shaking down his new Sportsman at New Smyrna Speedway last Saturday when on the last lap of the heat race, he suffered a massive heart attack and was pronounced dead at the track.
All personnel of Orlando SpeedWorld and General Manager Dick Westfall would like to express our deepest sympathy to his mother, sister and brother.
We will miss your smiling face Homer but you won't be forgotten.
