Florida Pro Series Drivers Tackle Charlotte County Speedway Saturday | by Dave Westerman
Just two races remain on the schedule for the Florida Pro Series Super Late Models and the first takes place Saturday night at Leroy Davidson's tight, action-packed quarter-mile Charlotte County Speedway.
Young Jay Middleton of Lake City took advantage of Michael Faulk's bad luck in the most recent event held at Hialeah Speedway to open up a 31 point lead in the FPS standings with just two races left.
Middleton hasn't won a race this year, but his consistent finishes have put him on top. Middleton and his North Florida Pharmacy team have finished in the top five in six of eight races, including three second-place finishes. One of those runner-up finishes came here at CCS in the season opener for the Florida Pro series back in March.
Faulk has two wins to his credit and is the only driver in the Series to capture two victories this year. However, he has only one other top five finish, and that's where Middleton has picked up his advantage in the points.
Lawtey's Doyle Boatwright is currently third in points while Miami's Steve Lamb and Merritt Island's Brian Finney round out the top five.
Mike Franklin, Jr., who won the Hialeah event earlier this month, will be back behind the wheel of the Eddie Hamby owned machine again this weekend at Charlotte. Local CCS Favorites Chris Turner and Scot Walters head up what should be a quality field of Florida Pro Super Late Model machines this weekend.
Fans will also be treated to a 75-lap Modified race as well as the Sportsman "Cops and Robbers" race.
