Figure 8's and Six Regular Divisions Highlight Final Two Points Race at Citrus

by Larry MacMillan

(Inverness, Fl. 10/15/03) Seven racing divisions go at it in the final two weeks of point races at Citrus County Speedway this Saturday night.

Late Models are back for their final two races over the next two weeks and Mike Bresnahan can’t afford to miss the next two races if he wants to hang onto the 2003 Late Model Crown. No substitutions will be allowed over the final two weeks of the point season. So to defend his lead from hard driving and determined Ricky Carlton and second year driver Jim Smith who is after his first career Late Model title at Citrus, he will have to do it on his own. Carlton has four wins and Smith has been to Victory Lane three times while Bresnahan has only one win for the season but 10 top five finishes have given him the consistency he has needed to lead by 37 points over Carlton and 63 points over Smith. It ain’t over til it’s over and that means that all of the current top ten will go all out over the next two weeks, not only for the crown but, to stay in the top ten for their share of the point’s fund. The Annual Awards Banquet will be on the 19th of December at the Citrus County Auditorium just a few hundred yards from where they put in all those miles to earn their spot as the Late Model elite.

Figure 8’s are back for their final race of the year Saturday night. Unfortunately several of the seven rainouts this season denied the wild division their fair share of race nights. They were scheduled to run eight times this season and were rained out three times. They too are determined to get it on for this final night.

It’s double feature night for the balance of the regular divisions after losing their feature races to rain last Saturday night. Sportsman, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Thunder Stocks who qualified last week will be eligible to run the first race of their division twin bill. Any additions to the lineup will be added to the second feature in the all feature night at Citrus.

All six divisions will run their final point races on Saturday, October 25th. That will be the final showdown for the season but it won’t be the end of the action for 2003. Saturday November 1st will be a Super Stock Saturday with 50 lap Street Stock and Hobby Stock races and 30 lap Mini Stock and Thunder Stock races plus the Open Wheel Lite Racers.

The grand finale comes on Saturday night November 8th with the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown Late Model 125. This should bring out the best of the best of the Florida Late Model pilots for the final night of racing at Citrus County Speedway for the 2003 season.
