Sportsman go for 50 Laps, "Double" Points for all other Divisions

by Jane Smith

Bithlo, Fla (October 7, 2003) Racing returns to Orlando SpeedWorld after a week off for the Monster Truck show. This Friday, October 10th thru October 24th, all city, county, state and federal employees can get themself and 4 members of their party in for just $5.00 a person with proper I.D. shown at the spectator side.

Dick Westfall, General Manager of SpeedWorld and Safety Chief Dominick Marchese said "we are all neighbors and friends and since the tragedies of September 11th we have all felt the crunch with this year being the worst budget year that most of us can remember. This is just one way we at Orlando SpeedWorld can give back a little to all the dedicated employees of our government."

All FASCAR divisions except for Sportsman will race for "double" points Friday night. The Sportsman division will have their double points on October 17th.

B.J. McLeod and Rusty Ebersole are tied for the points lead in the Super Late Model division. Both McLeod and Ebersole have 584 points so double points could put either driver in the sole lead. Ricky Wood comes in third with 336 points followed by Ronnie Roach with 224 and Rick Bates with 216. Completing the top ten are David Hart, Rick Lyons, Mack Hanbury, Jared Allison and Eric Deffendall.

Matt Wheeler leads the Open Wheel Modified points with 492 points. But only 40 points separate Wheeler from second place Shane Held at 452 points. Jason Boyd comes in third with 368 points but only 20 points behind Boyd is Lynn Dicandio who is moving up the ladder fast. Dicandio stands at fourth with 348 points followed by Glen Bradley in fifth with 312 points.

Dave Riley, Jared Allison, Frank Polly, Darren Gould and Jim "Hoot" Flynn round out the top ten.

Richard Hight basically has the Sportsman Championship tied up as he leads with 763 points. Coming in second is Donnie Smith with 404 points. Both of these cars will be very strong in Friday night's Sportsman 50 lapper. Michael Albert has not raced for awhile but still sits third in the Sportsman division with 368 points. Danny Shearer comes in fourth with 316 points followed by Robert Hight in fifth with 284 points Justin Hall, Doug Samion, Rob Kayse, Bill Hall and Cory Kaiser round out the top ten.

Friday night's 50 lapper will bring in some of the New Smyrna Sportsman and possibly others from around the area. Expect to see Dale Clouser in the No. 30 and third in points at New Smyrna as well as others. Qualifying for the Sportsman will be at 6:30 p.m. depending on car count.

Tim "Missileman" McPhail looks to be on his way to his second Mini Stock Championship as he leads the points with 612. Sean "Weasel" Bass comes in second with 456 points followed by Dick Laszlo in third with 432 points. Expect to see a good battle between Bass and Laszlo for that second place spot.

Randy Blakeslee comes in fourth with 204 points followed by R.J. Arnone in fifth with 200 points. Newcomer Mike Williams, Jr. rounds out sixth with 180 points followed by Robbie Storer, Chad Ashley, Pedie Allison and Rex Hollinger in the top ten.

Cory Freed leads the Super Stock division with 612 points and looks to be sitting pretty for a second consecutive championship. Ron Whaley comes in second with 472 points followed by Bob Wines in third with 416 points. Bob Beiler with his "Banana Boat" stand in fourth with 316 points followed by Mike Soukup in fifth with 260 points.

Andy Nichols, Ron Edwards, Billy Cuddy, Wally Semrow, and Butch Pierce round out the top ten in Super Stocks.

Orlando SpeedWorld grandstands open at 6 p.m. with qualifying for the Sportsman 50 Lapper at 6:30 p.m. followed by racing action at 8 p.m. Orlando SpeedWorld is located between SR50 and SR520 in Bithlo, Florida.

See ya there and don't forget your City, County, State and Federal I.D.'s for you and 4 members of your party to get in for just $5.00 per person.
