Brian Davidson Memorial 150 Just Around the Corner

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – It’s not too early for race fans to start thinking about the Brian Davidson Memorial 150, one of the truly big deals in Florida Limited Late Model racing.

This year the biggest race weekend at Charlotte County Speedway will take place on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 30.

The 150-lap race, named in memory of speedway owner LeRoy Davidson’s late son, will pay a whopping $5,000 to the winner. All cars are guaranteed $300 to start.

The race will draw the top Limited Late Models from across Florida and a few from other states.

Davidson started this race back in 1991 when the track was first constructed. He held it every year for seven years until he was ousted as promoter. Davidson triumphantly returned to CCS last year and once again reinstated the race of mammoth proportions.

Last year 28 drivers from every corner of the Sunshine State took the green flag, with Mike Hovis taking the win.

The car entry fee this year is $100 before Nov. 26 and jumps to $150 after.

Qualifying will be held on a Saturday night, Nov. 29.

Meanwhile, Saturday October 11 Charlotte County Speedway returns to family affordable racing , as six divisions will traverse the Punta Gorda paved oval at a cost of only $9 for adult fans.

The featured race will be a 50-lapper for the Road Warrior division. Chris Oncken of Fort Myers has been the points leader all season long and will be a favorite. Englewood driver Chris Huntoon will also be in the hunt, along with a host of others.

Also on the schedule are Limited Late Models, Sportsman, Super Stocks, Thunder Trucks and 4-Cylinders.

The front gates open at 4 p.m. Road Warrior lap qualifying will begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow.

Charlotte County Speedway, a 3/8-mile semi-banked oval, is located off Exit 161 of I-75 on Piper Road in Punta Gorda.
