East Bay Raceway Park and USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour Finalize Two-Day Show | by Bill Green “From Behind the MIC”
Tampa, FL (Oct. 1st, 2003) East Bay Raceway Park and the United Sprint Car Series have announced plans for a USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour visit to Florida’s famous 1/3-mile clay-by-the-bay. The two-day event will open on Friday, October 31st and conclude on Saturday, November 1st. Each day will see a complete race program, with full field qualifying, first round heats, qualifying mains as required and feature programs. The final Saturday Night A-Main will be the “Lonnie Prevatt” Memorial, with NASCAR veteran Ernie Irvan acting as Honorary Starter.
The USCS racecars are winged open wheeled 360, fuel injected racers, weighing approximately 1300 pounds and producing 650 to 700 horsepower. Last year the USCS series visited 8 states and 25 speedways to contest the series’ 30 events. Over 180 drivers from 14 states and 2 foreign countries participated in the 2002 season and 2003 is already bigger and better. With the addition of two nights at East Bay Raceway Park, the series will hold a total of 44 events in 2003, at 33 different tracks, in 9 different states.
The owners of East Bay Raceway Park were very excited about the announcement. “We’ve wanted to bring some of these bigger series into our track,” noted co-owner Todd Hutto, “to show them just how well our track and the staff can perform for a National audience. Plus with the addition of NASCAR veteran Ernie Irvan as Honorary Starter, including autograph sessions with the fans and guest appearances, we believe it will be one heck of a weekend.”
The USCS driver roster for 2003 includes several local hot shoes, that are well known to Florida fans, including; 2001 USCS Champion “The Malabar Missile ”Kenny Adams, 2003 King of the 360’s “Superman” Sport Allen, plus several regular East Bay Raceway Park 360 pilots like “The Hammer” Danny Martin, Jr., “Crazy Joe” Joe Melnick, Red Stauffer, Johnny Gilbertson, Paulie Milum, Casey Johnson, “The Weasel” Taylor Andrews and “Mr. Perseverance” Daryl Smith. Don’t forget you’ll also see Nationally known names like 2002 USCS Champion Terry Gray.
