(Inverness, Fl. 9/17/03) Get ready for an action packed night at Citrus County Speedway as all the regular division will back in force going after their point championships plus the Figure 8’s return for their monthly intersection action.
Mike Bresnahan is still top shoe in the Late Model division and holds a 35 point lead on three time winner Ricky Carlton. Bresnahan has only found Victory Lane once this year but has backed up his point lead with 9 top five finishes. Jim Smith is tied for second with an identical record with Carlton except he only has one heat win compared to 4 for Ricky. Herb Neumann Jr. holds out in fourth, 106 points up on Dale Sanders.
Mike Bell continues to hold the Sportsman lead with a 23 point edge with 3 wins and 10 top five finishes on his resume. Bill Oesterreicher continues to chase him sporting 4 wins but DNF’s have haunted him. Bill Ryan is a distant third over Johnny Sanders and Johnny Gann. Seven out of ten starters needed extensive work on their racers after their last outing 2 weeks ago and we’ll have to see how many make it back out for Saturday night fever.
Street Stocks were unable to run their feature race last week and Ernie Reed comes into this double feature program with a 24 point lead over Danny Cretty. Joe Viverito continues to run strong and Daniel Webster is chasing him for third. Mickey Burns is hot on Webster’s rear bumper and is still looking for his first win of the season.
Chris Hooker saw his Mini Stock lead fade to just 7 points after last week’s DNF. Chris Thornton is looking to recapture the top spot that he held for the best part of the first half of the season. Phillip Joyner has a handy lead on Mike Lawhorn and George Neumann in the race for third. The divisions beginning to rebuild with fifty two registered cars in the division.
Richie Smith put the 21 car Hobby Stock division away again last week for win #6 While Curtis Neumann continues to hold out in second with 2 wins and 15 top five finishes. Dean Lawyer is sporting three wins and 13 top five finishes for his third place hold on the point standings. Roy Perkins continues to hold down fourth over Sport Wilson who hasn’t raced for two weeks.
Pat Quick is showing 10 wins and 10 top five finishes for her solid hold on the Thunder Stock crown. Lee Keller had a tough finish after chasing Quick late in the race and getting sent to the rear of the field on a caution flag. He still holds a solid second place with Louie Cioe, Larry Triana, coming off his first win ever last week, chasing him. Tim Wilson is holding out in fifth in the race for the crown.
Figure 8’s get back to work and they are looking for a large field of very competitive cars. Visitors have made it to Victory Lane in the last two outings in April and May. Peanut Higginbotham and Victor Stanley have been getting in some extra practice while racing with the Hobby Stocks over the past couple of weeks and are showing some power on the oval. Now setting up the cars for right and left hand turns will be the trick to the Winner’s Circle.
Grandstand gates open at four and the first race will be the Street Stock makeup feature at 6 P.M... Heat races for all divisions will follow with 7 feature races rounding out the program.
