TBARA and FMSC Highlight Big Night of Racing at Ocala Speedway

by Dave Westerman

Fans will certainly get their money's worth Friday night at Ocala Speedway as the track hosts both the Tampa Bay Area Racing Association Winged Outlaw Sprint Cars and the Florida Mini Stock Challenge along with five of Ocala Speedway's regular racing divisions.

The TBARA Sprinters should be out in force as the Friday Ocala event is the first of a weekend double header that finishes Saturday night at Citrus County Speedway.

The Winged Warriors have had an outstanding season with a number of
different winners. Several Ocala area favorites are expected including Wendy Mathis, Ben Fritz, and Mike Love. Leesburg's Dude Teate and John Sambor of Eustis also can call Ocala Speedway their "home" track.

They'll be challenged by a host of TBARA regulars including defending TBARA Champion Shane Butler and his brother Keith, who won here back on July 18th. Shane and Keith's dad, Stan Butler, has also recently gotten the itch to race again and may be in the field.

Speaking of father-son combos, don't count out Wayne Reutimann, Sr. and Jr. The younger Reutimann led his dad across the line to win the USCS sanctioned race at Ocala earlier this year plus Reutimann, Jr. was second to Keith Butler back in July.

Other drivers expected in the field include Doug Heveron, Ray Bragg, Sonny and Bo Hartley, brothers Gary and Mark Gimmler, and three-time 2003 winner Joey "The Ace" Aguilar.

The Florida Mini Stock Challenge drivers have not seen much action lately due to Mother Nature, but the big question on everyone's mind at Ocala will be who can stop Robbie Yoakam.

The second generation racer has tallied wins in four of the five FMSC races held so far this year and already has a big points lead over defending FMSC Champion Robbie Storer who sits in second place. Richard Kelley, Jr. is the only driver to grace an FMSC victory lane other than Yoakam this year. He'll be in the Friday field at Ocala along with a large group of top Mini Stock drivers including Lee Davis, Rick Sirmans, Dennis Valdez, Tom Jones, Jr., Mark Moniz, Darren "Action" Jackson, Chris Hooker, Steve Griffin, Marty Neikens,
Jimmy Warram, Chad Ashley, Michael Seeright and many more.

Also in action Friday will be the WIND-FM Modifieds, Diamond H Air & Heat Sportsman, K-Country Street Stocks, Four Cylinder Stocks and V-8 Stocks.
